ATF change 2006 2l petrol help

Hi all,

I bought my 2006 2l auto petrol Accord a few weeks back with 54000 on the clock, I really like it.

I thought I'd a attempt a gearbox oil change today to ensure its longevity but got out the house late due to a new baby and toddler (help!!!).
Anyway it was bright when I got out but daylight was starting to fade, so I jacked her up and started searching for the drain plug but I couldn't see it. Light started to fade fast so I gave up, I didn't feel comfortable crawling around under an unfamiliar car for to long.
If anybody can point me in the right direction in as much detail as possible I'd be grateful. I've seen the guide but because I'm new to the the car the photograps aren't familiar to me.

I've played around mostly with older Fiat Coupe 20v turbos and done my own maintenance such as cambelt changes etc so I enjoy getting my hands dirty but I'm no mechanic.

This seems like an excellent forum with helpful people so I will try to help others when I can as I learn more about the car.

Just seen a helpful 2.4 atf change guide which shows removal of the under tray is required. Can anybody just confirm if this is also required for the 2l so I can have a go tomorrow (hopefully a lot earlier in the day).

My car is the 2.4, but the 2.0 block is virtually the same size, so I'd think that whatever applies to the 2.4 for this, will also apply to the 2.0
 
Thank you freddofrog I'll have a go tomorrow if I get some time.
If anybody else can just confirm that the whole of the under tray needs to come of to get to the drain plug it would be appreciated.

On the manual you can get away with undoing the two 10mm bolts at the rear of the tray and letting it hang down.

Hi, I bought a 2.4 a few months ago and did an ATF change. I took the whole under tray off as it was my first go at an Accord ATF change, done others before like Toyota, Vauxhall etc. 2.0 should be the same. The drain plug is toward the front of the box on the inside face if I recall. When I put the under tray back on I noticed there is a small cut-out in the tray where one could also access the drain plug with a bit of fettling but looking at it the oil would go all over the fecking place! Alternatively you could use a Pela type fluid extractor and try it from the top? might try that myself next time as I'm planning another change when the weather improves since a drain does not get all of it out and I didn't want to attempt the full flush method in the cold. I think it took about 2.8 litres but I put in exactly what came out so it was spot on. I don't think it had ever been done on the Accord I bought and it had 109k on it. Often neglected the ATF is then people wonder why Auto transmissions go wrong! DOH! I've had older Vauxhalls before with the Aisin tranny done regular ATF changes and they go on forever, we had a few cars with 150k plus on them without a hint of Auto box problems. Always use the proper Honda ATF though as I do not know any alternative you can use at the moment.
 
Thanks ScoobyDoo! I didn't get a chance to try again on Saturday as I decided to to the hub and bearing on my old Fiat with some help.

Hesitant to do the atf change now as it's soooo cold outside. It's only got 54k on the clock so I think it'll hold out until early next year although I'm not sure if it's the original 2006 atf in there.

I have a big 5l measuring jug which I'll use to measure how much comes out and put the same amount in. Also have 6l of Honda atf waiting to go in so will do two changes with 20 odd miles of driving in between and maybe a 3rd depending on how my wallet is feeling.

When I did mine (2.4) I also changed the filter, which is under the airbox IIRC. It's worth doing that as well IMO.
