Need a bit of advice.
My Diesel Honda Accord is 10 years old now and the MOT and service is due early next month. The local Suzuki main dealer is offering me an MOT + service (using 0w/30 oil) including gen Honda parts all in for £119. He also said
that if I buy the fuel filter ( has not been replaced for 4 years ) they would replace it free as part of the service. Is the fuel filter replacement a lot trickier than they think?

Honda main dealer MOT + service + free breakdown cover is £130. The oil they use is 0w/20. Fuel filter is another £90.

I have always used Honda as having full history has helped with out of date warranty issues but as the car is getting on now maybe it is time for a change. Also is 0w/30 better than 0w/20? Thoughts please.

I think £119 is a pretty good MOT/service deal (especially including fitting the fuel filter).

I'd stick with 0w-30, as (so far as I'm aware from forums) 0w-20 is a virtual unknown on our engines AND you may show up any timing chain/tensioner wear with a thinner oil (the need good oil pressure for the tensioners to fully work).

Fuel filter is a bit tricky (maybe trickier than they realise?), but anyone with a half-decent tool kit will eventually get the job done!

Reassuring to see that the Suzuki dealer knows the correct oil.

It appears the Honda dealer doesn't although that may have just been a slip of the tongue. Honda OEM 0W 20 is semi-synthetic anyway so it's better to go for a fully synthetic.

Thanks guys.
I phoned Honda back just to clarify things about the oil and they said they made a mistake and 0w/20 is for petrol engine. I said "Oh....so you must use 0w/30 then?........ "No...we use 5w/30 for diesel engine" says he.

I think I will go to Suzuki get it through the MOT first then let them carry on with the service and they can check at the same time to see how tricky the fuel filter will be. The Accord is 10 years old (probably worth no more than £2,000) and I have owned it for over 6 years, still driving on the original clutch. It's getting to that stage where if anything major goes wrong it could cost nearly as much to repair as the car is worth :)

2.4 petrol takes 0w30 too. There's a lot of confusion over the oil for all 7th gen cars.
