I read on another forum that Honda changed their mind on the cdti timing chain, after initially saying it would never need changed, they now say 75k. I can't seem to find any confirmation of this though which makes me think it is wrong. I asked a Honda dealer when I was in seeing a second hand accord and they reckoned 100k and that it is not that big a job, ~£300 I think they said.

Anyone got the facts for a confused newbie?
Cheers.

I was under the impression that as long as you change your oil regularly with 0W30 it should last forever...

Probably nothing to worry about unless I go for an 04/05 then by the looks of it, in which case it would save hassle if it had already been done under warranty.

Certainly would be mate... If you can go for an 06 facelift you get other goodies too.

Hi I'm a new member. Having previously driven a v reg accord up to 220k I was very excited to buy a 54 reg cdti with 93k and decent service history for £1700 last week. Was grinning all the 200 miles home. I love it. BUT I'm terrified the timing chain is gonna snap or start to rattle on me. No noise at the moment! Just how common is this problem? Is it worth keeping? I really hope so. Can someone tell me if I'm worrying too much or should I get rid while it's still running well?

It is a known problem, particularly on 2004 and 2005 models. Later models had modified tensioners to reduce the problem, but it wasn't a 100% cure.

Mines horribly noisy and I'm planning to replace both chains (cam and oil pump drive) as soon as I can arrange a few days free. It is a very expensive job to get done by a garage, because there is a lot of labour involved and the Honda parts are really expensive... other chains (Febi) are available, but I've never seen aftermarket tensioners, guides or sprockets.

Having said all that, you're probably worrying too much... they don't all fail. Or maybe yours has already had the chains replaced?

Welcome to TypeAccord.
