I'm new to the forum, and had an issue today which I managed to fix through some info on the internet. Thought it was so useful that I'd post on here for anyone else with a similar problem.
I have a facelift 2.2 CTDI Saloon and as part of the learning experience was just cleaning up and tinkering around, I had read somewhere about the priming pump and decided to check if the pump was hard, it wasn't so I gave it a squeeze... I continued cleaning and didn't think anything of it, until I came to starting my car up. I had a flat battery, due to interior lights and stereo being on for a while...Anyway..got the leads out and started the car up...but shock horror! engine light came on and glow plug light was flashing !!
Cut a long story short, the car was in limp mode...and having searched a few sites I came across a procedure to prime the fuel system on page 498 of the user manual. The interesting bit is point 7 which states "The engine runs normally, but the malfunction indicator lamp or the glow plugs indicator remains lit "
To turn of the indicator, "start and turn off the engine at least three times at intervals of approx. 30 seconds" ..... I ended up doing this about 10 times and had a little drive as well resulting in issues being resolved - no lights !
So I'd try this if you are experiencing similar symptoms before you spend any money on code readers etc.. !!
