My 2002 2.0se exec is currently ounding like a tractor, stuck her up on the ramps today to see if i could find out what has happened.

On examination the exhaust has seperated between the down pipe and the cat..but the three bolts holding it on dont appear to be threaded or have any nuts on them!!! Anyone know if this is correct. A previous owner has had gun gum on and it is difficult to see whats going on.

There is definately no gasket left between as i can put a screwdriver in and push the two bits apart?

On my 1.8 there are nuts and bolts but they are typically badly corroded

Are you talking about the downpipe bolts or the cat?

Either way, both my 6G's (2.0 and 2.2) have bolts/nuts on the downpipe and cat.

Got this fixed..I was a bit concerned when seeing Andyb1976 post as mine looks nothing like that!!! gargage confirmed as a botched up job...loks like a combination of a Rover system and something else....all fixed meantime just means when it goes I will need a complete system......so ....any ideas on what to go for s/steel but want it to look /sound slightly better?

andy you got the standard exhaust on? im wanting a backbox on again but cause the rear of the box has that daft bend its a bit hard to just put on any backbox without some work.. not unless a cut the pipe just behind the old backbox so its straight pipe and connect an aftermarket exhaust and clamp it that way.. any recommendations mate?
