Hello there folks, I have two things that i need some advise with please. First thing is that i have a leak on my gearbox that i cannot locate where it is coming from. It looks like it is coming up from the top after i cleaned up the areas that can leak underneath. This leak problem led me to another big problem when i decided to investigate further, i got a missing wheel nut key. Cut the story short i tried to remove the wheel nut using sacrificial sockets and bolt extractors but i only manage one after a whole day of cursing. Any suggestion please apart from going to the dealers for another wheel nut key or using a welding machine? Car is a 2000 manual with a pia small locking wheel nut that is buried inside the hole. Thanks in advance.

Hello! The leak could be from anywhere, but providing it is definetely gearbox related, there is only 4 places it could leak from. The drive seals, input shaft seals, shifter mechanism and the ajoining cases. If you are 100% sure it is the gearbox and that the leak is coming from the top, I would look at the breather system. It's possible that the box could be overfull of oil, so the excess would be blown out.

As for the nut, welding would probably the easiest and least time consuming solution. Failing that, you could try taking the locking nut you removed to an engineering shop and seeing if they could make up a tool for you to remove them easier, but that might prove costly.

Thanks for the replies but yes i have to look in to that leak properly coz i also noticed that it is getting hard to shift gear. With the wheel nut i am actually contemplating to buy a cheap arc welder and have a go at it. For posting pictures to describe things i will leave that for later on, i am still trying to learn how to get around computers lol. I just wonder if all 2000 model weel nut key are the same? Doubt it due to obvious security reason lol. Cheers.
