Guys,

Can anyone recommend some uprated sidelight & headlight bulbs for my 05 Tourer.

I dont believe it has HIDs & don't want to take that route- just want a whiter light from both instead of the yellowy tinge I get at the moment.

I want to avoid bulbs that look blue & obviously aftermarket when switched off too- I believe you can now get 'White LED' sidelights in 501 fitment. Would these be ok?

Cheers

Chris

before I fitted my HID's I had OSRAM SILVERSTAR. it was noticeable difference between my old philips. it's worth try especially that I've paid around 8 quid in makro.

Chris yes you can get white 501 LED's I've just bought these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190585128557?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Any particular reason why you don't want to go down the HID route?

I was the same spent ££'s on fancy Osrams etc then took the plunge never looked back 6000K HID's are just fantastic excellant bright white light, when they're in other headlights look like candles even the Osrams. They're easy to fit and there's plenty of help on here I've had mine for about 18 months and I bought a spare set for about £2 which i keep in the boot.

The main reason for avoiding the HIDs is the variable quality of the kits, hassle involved with fitting them & routing the wiring etc...

I might have a rethink & go for a 6000k kit if it's a relatively simple job though?

Thanks for the link btw- have just bought some too.

I suppose I should get HIDs now so everything matches!

Anybody got links to any good quality sensibly priced kits?

I brought a set of hids from a company called right click and to me they seem really good a resonably priced

here you go mate. These will be perfect for your accord. They have the slim ballasts so its easier to find a place to put them. Oh and a HID kit is pretty easy to install.

Chris the wiring is simply plug in to your exisiting bulb fitment no cutting or joining of the wires, my offside ballast sits near to the bulkhead fixed with double sided sticky pads and the wiring runs along the inside of the wing fixed with a couple of cable ties at suitable points. The nearside fits snug between the battery and the sides of the battery cover, again the wiring runs along the inside of the wing fixed with cable ties.

You need to drill a hole through the headlight cover the large plastic one which needs to be removed to get to the bulbs I think it's 22mm but I may need to be corrected. This is so the bulbs of the HID system can be put into the lights.

Cheers- & it's a kit with HB5 headlight bulbs for a 7th Gen. Correct?
Chris mate if its your normal beam then the fitment is H1

Super, thanks fellas.

Yep, just after a kit to replace the stock dipped beam setup. H1's it is then.

Thanks again

Question - by dropping in a HID bulb into a Halogen headlight enclosure doesn't the beam pattern scatter too much?

I thought it would be necessary to upgrade the holding lens/headlight as well?

We already have projector lenses bud... It's the auto levelling that's missing.

This is correct and until my car fails it's MOT which it hasn't with the HID's for the last 2 then they'll stay where they are. Also the cars don't have headlight wash wipe

Not fighting you guys on it, but the Halogen Projector is different from the HID projector, with a Halogen it's a single point, for a HID, it's more of an arc.

For the actual technical details....

Jason both articles talk about headlamps without the projector if you look at your headlights there is a very thick glass circular lense, the headlight cover is clear smooth normal plastic. This is diffrent from headlamps in other cars where the beam is directed using various angles cut into the lense. Due to this thick circular lense the beam is correctly spread, where as the beam on normal headlights would be eratic.
The volvo in the video has the same headlight design as on the Honda, the Renault has the normal type of headlight hence the beam pattern is all over the place.

Regardless of the use of projector type or headlight housing type - if it's not designed for HID then you will get scatter. The reason I know this is my brother has a 2.4 Exec with the factory HIDs and I tried the upgrade and there simply is no comparison. Factory OEM headlights give a much better, focused with a clean-cut off, the projectors in the Halogen (even with the beam-shaping glass) didn't compare.

It originally lead me to the research from the above links - to do a proper upgrade to need to replace the actual headlights, which in the Accord's case includes the actual projector lens. I think it's a misunderstood concept that if you have a project lens then it can take a HID and maintain the beam pattern. It cannot, it is made for either a halogen or HID bulb.

It all goes back to how the original beam pattern within the bulb is formed.....

Anyhow, it doesn't reallly matter to me, it was just a question. :)

I think the Auto express video is a bit missleading TBH as said my car has had them fitted for over 2 years passed the the MOT beam test every time I don't know anyone who has them fitteda nd has failed on this issue, never been flashed either.

Hi All,

Well I never realised how bad the low beams were on my motor until recently. I'm living up in Yorkshire at the moment and the country roads are as good as pitch black with the standard bulbs that are fitted.

So after a little searching I followed the link and am eyeballing these http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=60&products_id=1041

I have the following headlights:

Can someone confirm that I am looking at the right bulb fitment, i read earlier posts which suggest I should be looking at the H1s however the chart suggests HB4s http://www.rclick.co.uk/documents/HID_Conversion_Compatibility_List.pdf

Are the 8000k legal on this island of ours?

H1 are the ones, both dipped and main beam. 8,000 are used by a lot of folk but if you want better light 4,000 are the ones, not as bling ( blue ) as the 8,000 but deffo better to see with.

As Cliff said H1 are the one you need.As for colour the most common is 6000k as its a happy median IMO.

I fitted 4300 k as these have best light output compared to 6000k or 8000k. they are nice and white not yellow or blue

Nice one thanks guys - H1s it is then!

I can't wait to be able to see at night on these country roads.

I may aswell get a set of these too:

Hmmm....... so after taking a look at fitting my new bulbs I found that the bulbs did not fit!

Here is a picture of existing H1 with the replacement next to it

and here is the hole that it wouldn't fit into

Hmmm.. so I have found that the H1 bulbs do not fit into my lights

Here is a picture of the old and new

Should I return the lights and order a different make or get a pencil file and make the hole bigger?
