heater resistor

Hi All

I finally stumped up the cash (£40) to get myself a new heater resistor (5 years after it blew!) It was a new/unused genuine honda part.

I fitted it, but left it 'dangling' by the wiring harness, because it was dark and I could not see where the screw went... so a couple of days use later, I put the heater on setting 1, and I head a 'pop' sound, and low and behld, the fecking thig has blown and I can only use the heater on full blast again... (

What is it that causes the resistor to blow up? because I guess I need to sort that bit out before purchasing another one....

Hi

Having a nosey on other forums suggests that the blower motor could be pulling too much current and blowing the resistor pack out.

That could ultimately mean a new blower motor is required, which won't be cheap. Do you have a pollen filter in the car, just wondering if some debris may have got past the filter into the motor (I don't know how this is arranged in there and if indeed that could choke up the motor).

Might be better to get an expert to look incase there is a simple wiring issue and you waste money throwing expensive parts at it.

Thanks for the info.... If I remember correctly, when it blew the first time, it was shortly after a small puddle of water had appeared in the passenger footwell..... but this time there was no water ... I used to think honda was a quality manufacturer... but my experience with this accord (in the 7 years I have owned it, and driven just about 30K miles) is not a good one...

I dont think it has once passed an MOT without needing work, and when it failed because of corrosion and needed welding I could not believe it.... I have kept hold of it against my better judgement, because I can't bare the thought of how much it is now worth compared to how much it has cost me... and it has hardly been used..

I can honestly say I don't think I will ever buy a honda car again.... their bikes are so much better, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another honda bike...

Ahh sorry to hear that The 6th gens seem to be pretty reliable too, but I know when you end up with a 'lemon' from any manufacturer - facts, figures and word of mouth is no consolation. I've owned mine eight years, so nearly the same length of time, with 87k on the clock and its passed every MOT, advisories on tyres only in the first year and its only one other advisory was for droplinks this year its 11th year.

Previously I had a brand new Seat Leon, electrical fire somewhere behind the passenger dash took hold whilst I was driving and wrote it off. So like you, bit of a tarnished rep - only with the VW stable.
