manually dial a number

Does anyone know if it is possible to manually dial a number using the navigation system? I can dial a number from my phonebook but if I wanted to dial a number I don't have stored the only way I've found to do it is via the phones own keypad.

As SAJ said when the HFT ask you what name or number would you like to dial just say the number job done
