Just had a shock of my life.
My clutch is nearly gone...and a new one with fitting will be around £400-450....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrggghhhh
is this a rip off or a good deal?
Dont suppose we have a rersident mechanic who can do it on the cheap??? just wishfull thinking

Also the guys at my local garage told me that my Accord hasn't got a cambelt, but a chain??? Yet in the Service history, it said cambelt was changed??

Yes, it does has a cambelt.
About the clutch, search here in the forum, there are pretty good offers for replacing it.

The 6th gen does have cambelt and it should be changed before 70k I believe. I wouldn't trust that garage to do anything to my car. Find another one.

Local garage just rang me back, they can do it for £350...feel a bit better now...hands still shaking though

In the paperwork, cambelt was done about 20k miles ago, but it was 6years ago. I think i read somewhere that you should replace them every 60k miles or 6years, whichever comes earliest. Whats a reasonable price for a cambelt change? Parts and labour? Just looking at euro car parts, and they range from £65 to £130 for the timing belt kit.

The 6th gen Accord has a belt NOT a chain. It should be replaced at 70K miles or TEN years whichever comes first. The Auto tensioner should be replaced at the same time too.

Cambelt change should cost about £200 at a trusted mechanic. A clutch price for a 6th gen is pretty steep from garages as they thing the subframe needs to come out. Which it doesn't.

For a GREAT quote on both items give Andy at VtecDirect a call. He has done both these items (and sooooo much more) for my car, and he is always the best price around. I save money by taking my car to him even if you include the fuel for the 400 miles round trip.

Got quoted by APB motors £475 clutch and £275 cam belt (yet delaer charges £200 for cambelt)

I'll give VtecDirect a call now and find out how much. If the price and service are good, dont mind doing 160miles round trip.
Although i am a bit worried driving, as the clutch is almost knackered, afarid i might do more damage by driving...

Darko if your clutch is already knackered then you won't do anymore damage by driving it. How bad is the slip? As long as you can cruise at 60ish the whole way you'll be fine.

I should imagine that the price will be better than what you've already been quoted, but make sure you come back and let us know how you get on dude.

Just spoke to Andy from VtecDirect, what a nice guy B)

Anyhows clutch is £360
cambelt is £196
All inclusive of VAT
Unfortunately they cannot do it tomoz, otherwise we would have gone on a road trip

Spoke to him about performance upgrades, and he said the best one is: "Sell yours and get a Type-R" :(

The clutch is quite bad....it's hard work/luck for it to go into gear.
The other day i spent most of my city driving in 3rd...starting in the 3rd also ha ha ha
I noticed that once u get going, it will go into 4th and 5th...but its getting worse and worse. i dont want to be stuck on a roundabout/traffic lights...not a good look
I'm not driving at the moment

Doesn't your insurance company provides trailer to take the car to the repair shop when it fails? Here in Portugal we get that for free. If it's over some amount of kms, they will not ship it immediately, it takes about 1 or 2 days, but it gets there with out any costs or penalties for you.

ha ha ha
is that a joke?? It took mine insurance company 6days to recover my car.
youu are lucky my friend...good insurance companies, good weather and food...maybe i should move to portugal

Don't do that, you will regret it, unless you have loads on money B)

Where'd you take it in the end dude?
