I have read some owners run with higher tyre pressures than stated in handbook.why is this and what pressure do they use.I have 2ltr accord with 15" alloys.

It depends on what your car is used for and your driving style but as my Accord is used as a reliable daily I run at a couple psi over whats recommended.
My reasons are that fuel economy is more important than ultimate performance and grip as everyother week I have a 500 mile motorway journey to do where as if it was a Type R and a weekend toy then I may run them at a psi under the recommended so that grip and performance are the priority.
Rule of thumb, higher psi = less grip, better fuel economy, tyre lasts longer
