Any advice with what to use on new paintwork, as have conflicting views, some say polish as new paint needs to breath others say wax is ok
Any views?

Sorry Tony my bad didn't see you had a respray
Im not sure myself but we have plenty of members hear that will no the answer to your question.

I would imagine wax, I can't see how polish will help a new paintjob, polish is meant to clean and smooth out uneven lacquer which there shouldn't be on new paint.

I agree with trev wax is the way forward bud,but im sure there was a certain amount of time you had to wait before applying wax to a resprey, but cant remember how long, ill find out and get back to you bud

Polish will allow it to breath but wax will seal it. You should leave 2 months to allow the paint to cure before waxing.

But then it all depends on how the paint was cured. if it was baked you should be ok to wax it straight away. You should ask the guy who painted your car as there are a lot of variables as to how the paint was cured.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Paint manufacturers themselves recommend 30-60 days before sealing with a wax or sealant.

As said above, new paint needs to "outgas" or "cure". Adding layers on top of this hinders the gasses from escaping.

In saying that, when I used to work in a paint shop the cars were baked and then left for 24 hours before they were fully wet sanded.

After a suitable period just apply wax you can afford. I can recommend 3 from memory -

476s collinite very hard wearing - £15.

Dodo supernatural is excellent - £60.

Megs #16 paste wax - £12.
