Hi all,
I had my rear pads replaced a few weeks ago by the local Honda dealers, all was well immediately after that as far as I could tell.
Last week I noticed (all of a sudden), the handbrake lever had excessive play and i had to pull it up much higher than usual. I also noticed a slight 'drag' when driving.
I adjusted the handbrake to remove the play, but this made the drag much worse and after driving for just 2 miles i succeeded in burning the pads out!
I ascertained at that time that if I release the handbrake and pull away, the pads would stick. If i then braked with the foot pedal, the pads would then release properly. Based on that, I figured the pistons weren't sticking, perhaps it was the handbrake mechanism?
I took it back to the local Honda dealership and asked them to fix the fault, whatever it was.
They returned the car having fitted more new pads (which I paid for), saying they couldn't find a fault but that i'd simply over-adjusted the handbrake.
This was ok for a few days (albeit with a bit of play in the handbrake lever).
But, today the problem has returned, excessive play in lever, hot smelling pads and some drag.
Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? The Honda dealers are now saying the calipers might need replacing at a very non-trivial cost!
In my view they should've bottomed this problem out either when they replaced the pads or when I put it back in for repair.
