Just removed rear bumper cover from my 2001 Accord coupe to repair a lead found torn off one of the (Honda retrofitted) reversing sensor transducers. Finding what to undo was pretty straightforward apart from the feature shown in the photos.

First photo shows two plastic peglike fittings snapped into the body where the bumper cover top edge rises steeply just ahead of the taillights.

Second photo shows the RH of two plastic brackets attached to the bumper cover. Each bracket U-slot engages (rather imprecisely) with a round 'journal' on the respective plastic snap-in fitting above. Yes, I accidentally broke away the inner side of that upper U-slot.

I just can't understand how the U-slots are supposed to be disengage from and reengage with the pegs during rear bumper removal and refitting. Anyone know the correct procedure?

You'd have to release the plastic pegs from inside the rear wing, and then clip them to the bumper before refitting it to the car.
