One of my favourite words, and definitely describes today.
Bought my car last summer and it came with two keys. The 'spare' had always sat doing nothing since I bought it. My missus today went out to move the kids seats over to her car and subsequently went out taking my 'proper' key with her.
I went out to start up the bus with the spare not thinking anything of it. It operated the central locking okay but the car wouldn't start.
I spent a good 5 mins or so trying to start it. It was turning over but wouldn't catch (reminded me of being a kid on a cold morning with my dad pushing and pulling at the choke trying to get the Ausin 1100 started!) I couldn't believe that my 'reliable' Honda had let me down.
The missus returned and on a whim I decided to try the other key......started first time!
Here is the 'serendipity' bit.
Where were we off to? The local Honda dealer as her Jazz was having some recall work done. I mentioned my car not starting to the guy at Honda and got the reply. Hmm sounds like your key needs reprogramming. Leave it with us and we'll do it while we do the Jazz.
Result! Two keys now fully working....no charge!!!!
Perfect timing as if I hadn't noticed today, that spare key would have been hanging up until such a time I really did need it and then when I'd had the hassle of finding it doesn't work I would have had to approach Honda bout sorting it, and I feel pretty confident they would have charged me under those circumstances.
Not sure how much they charge to reprogramme a key.
