Hi,

after owning various "old" Land Rovers and always getting them serviced at the village garage I bought a 55 petrol accord a few months ago. It is due a service and when I bought it I thought I would try to get it serviced at the dealers. However, I've just rung the two local ones and been quoted (£180+ for a small service (which appears to be an oil and oil filter change and then a quick look round to make sure every thing else is ok) or £500+ for a major service!!!!! I used to pay about £100 for an engine service and about £200 for a full service so I'm trembling at the Honda prices.

So, do I need to take it to a Honda dealer or can I take it to a much cheaper Jack of all trades village garage. (I'm not bothered about the stamps or the actual sell-on value of the car as I intend to keep it a long long time, becasue I love it!)

Also, the service history is:-

13548 miles
19449 miles
25410 miles "small service only + DF" or PF (wtf?)
29368 miles "annual service"
34397 miles "small service only"

So, should I go for a big one or a small one?

Thanks for any help,

DM

If it was me i would do a big full service for piece of mind.
If you can do most yourself with genuine parts then do so.
£500 seems a lot to me if you don't mind travailing give Honda Holdcroft ring.

Have you tried Honda Letchworth?

Hi

If you've got your owner's manual check out the rear section on servicing.

Personally I use the Honda worldwide schedule in the owner's manual as the European schedule in the service book specifies intervals that are long to please the fleet managers.

Some of the simpler jobs like filters you can do yourself. And others you can take a view on whether they need doing now or not in view of the age and mileage of the car. Maybe if you just ask for those jobs it will be cheaper. A lot of things get checked anyway at MOT time.

I would recommend using genuine Honda parts even if you get an independent to fit them. They are dearer but definitely a lot better if you want the car to last.

I had mine done at F1 Autocenter in Cambridge and the did a good job. Service and MOT for £145 which was oil filter air filter wheel alignment and a few other bits.

I went to Honda who said I needed fuel filter, gearbox oil and brake fluid as well, but I only wanted a stamp in the book and intended to do these things myself.
