tailgate doesn't always stay open

Hi everyone, hoping this is the first of not a lot of problems.....
Every so often I've noticed that when I open the boot (tailgate) it struggles to lock into place and and then starts beeping and closes. Was wondering if anyone has come across this before and if so what should I do?
It doesn't always happen so is not a major problem yet...

Make sure that the strip on the edge of the boot is clean and clear- we have non-slip mats in the back and if one is so much as touch the strip it upset the tailgate when it closes.
