Having put facelift wipers on the front and been amazed at the difference (thanks Crespo), I wanted to put a flat type on the rear too in the hope of perking up its largely hopeless performance.

The one that's currently on is Bosch and only a couple of months old, but unless accompanied by about a gallon of screenwash it's like wiping the glass with a muddy rag.

Anyhow, ordered a Bosch Rear Aero Retro Flat Wiper Blade HONDA ACCORD (93-08) on-line and quickly received a Bosch AR15U, which is great. Except it is the wrong fitment. And three inches too long :(

Hopefully I'll get a refund on that as the Accord isn't even mentioned on the packet (fits the front of some Civic and Jazz)!

So, can someone tell me if the facelift Tourer has a flat rear blade (and does anyone have the Honda part number) or is it a conventional one as on the pre-facelift? Other than Bosch and Honda are there any other avenues open to me?

Ta, M@

Have you tried other makes like a facelift vectra. I know they have a short flat type wiper. You may have to get the whole arm depending on the actual fitment but worth a look.

There must be something that will fit.

I am pretty sure you could do something with this.

Liking your lateral thinking there :D

When I get a minute I'll do a bit of research, and see what's most likely to fit. If the splines are the same the VW bit looks like it would do nicely!

From previous experience of removing wiper arms they are all pretty much the same. It's only the arm lengths and bends that differ.

Should make a good DIY when you get round to it.

So I’ve had a look around. You don’t half get some funny looks walking round Tesco car park with a tape measure!

The Golf / (older) Polo / Seat Leon types on eBay (and elsewhere) are 42cm. The Accord is more like 37cm overall, with a 30cm blade length. There might be some mileage in the newer BMW 1 series / Mini?

Anyhow, I think the winner is the new shape 6R Polo (MK5 or MK8 depending upon who you talk to). It’s the right length and doesn’t have the integral washer jet in the boss like some others. If I drop on one cheap I’ll buy one to have a play with.

In the mean time I’ve removed the existing arm to see what the score is:
It’s retained by a single 10mm nut. Once undone the arm just pulls off. I was expecting a splined shaft, but it’s more of a serrated cone arrangement.

I noticed there wasn’t much pressure, and thought this may be responsible for the rubbish wiping. To that end I’ve drilled the arm about 10mm further up than the existing spring mounting point and pressed in a stainless steel pin. With the spring fixed to this (easier said than done, the spring is really strong!) there’s a bit more force against the glass.

So far so good. I’m not saying it’s amazing, but it is an improvement, was quick and cost nowt. I’ll keep my eyes open for a flat blade and report back…

I need to get out more.

Hi MATT
Have you or anyone managed to try the Kia Ceed rear wiper arm and flat blade?
If so does it work ok?
