Hello Chaps,

My 58 plate 2.0EX petrol auto is about down to the wear bars on the front (nearer on the inside that the outside - so 2nd topic = wheel alignment?) and about 6mm on the rears and currently has nice quiet Yokohama db E70D 225/50R17s all around.

The question is do I spend £320'ish on 2 more for the front or splash out £750'ish and change them for something different?

I think the Yokos are the second set (amazed if they're the first at about 48k - 'spose they could be the third) but braking isn't as good in the wet as my old Passat on Dunlops and I hear they don't wear that well compared to Michelins and Continentals.

But if Honda-san fits Yokos as originals - then I need a good reason to change … don't I??

What do you guys think - what do you all drive on?

I'm looking for a long life for me and the tyres - so a balance of safety and wear resistance - but I do like the comfy quiet of the Yokos ….

I reckon I've got a week or two before I need to buy some more rubber ... so looking forward to your expert advice.

Many Thanks,

Graham

Ooops - sorry - managed to post it twice ... can't see how to cancel one of them ... errm ... sorry chaps

I've run these all round on my last car and have two on this one and they are a nice tire

I also fancy a change and the car is booked in for a service next week and I'm have 2 new Uniroyal RainSport 2 as these get good reviews

Hi graham I went for Falkans all round a good mid range tyre IMO

Thank you for yoru suggestions chaps,

I like the idea of Uniroyal rain tyres - especially down here in the South West at the moment !

Interesting to hear Falkans too - I'll see who has them locally and compare prices with the Michelins, the wife's Seat had Primacys (Primacies??) for a while and they did about 28k on the fronts, she has Cinturatos on at the moment, they stick to the road well - but they don't look like they will last as long as the Michelins ... by the way - the Falkan website does a nice line in sales literature featuring pretty girls, on one photo where 3 girls are 'toying' with a computer screen, there's a guy in the background who needs to get a new life - his attention is focussed ................... on the screen! (See autosports 2006 here)

I'll ponder a bit more and let you know what I end up with ... maybe I can find someone pretty to help me select the right Falkan!

Appreciate the thoughts and ideas

Cheers,

Graham

Update ...

I finally went with Honda-san's recommendation and stayed with Yokos from my local specialist dealer, fitted this morning ....

I also had a go on a Hunter 4-wheel alignment to understand the uneven tyre wear - the near side toe was off by 8' (minutes of angle - not feet!!). So probably a thanks to Devon County Councul is due for their close attention to the road surface around here! Anyway, now I understand why I was losing the inside edge of both front tyres.

The nearside tyre was well past the wear bar in the middle of the tyre - so probably explains the slight pull to the left too. A quick £35 trick with a couple of spaners (with of course the Hunter and all that training) and everything points due north again ....

The moral of my tale is to take a close look at tyre wear more often - so next time I can avoid an illegal tyre (probably - occifer - Sir) and make a pair last a bit longer.

Thanks again for all thoughts chaps

Cheers,

Graham
