Ultrasonic sensor security system – using just the key

Hi Guys. New to this forum.

I had a search on the forums with little luck. Owner’s manual does not say much.

Recently bought a 2nd hand 2001 Honda Accord 2.0 Vtec Exec. I have one remote and 2 keys

The car is locked with key or remote – then if I unlock the driver side door with the key, the alarms sounds. I can start the car but the lights are flashing and horn sounding.

I have the ultrasonic sensor security system. The manual says the alarm horn will sound if I use the key to unlock the car and that I have to use the remote to turn the alarm off.

I just want to know how I can operate the car in the event I lose or break the remote. I.e. either turn off the alarm altogether, temporary or just the ultrasonic sensor security system so that unlocking the car with the key does not sound the alarm.

I can not locate any valet switch. I felt under the driver and passenger side lower dash with no luck – does anyone know where it is located on this model?

What other options are there? Disconnect the alarm horn, start the car, wait for the alarm to reset and then drive away – will the alarm keep going off while driving home?

Unfortunately the alarm does sound when I unlock the car with the key regardless if I used the key or remote to lock it. I found that out much to annoyance of my neighbours ;-). I can start the engine with the alarm going off!

The manual says this is the case for my model (Exec) as this has the Ultrasonic Senor. Perhaps this is why I can only unlock the boot with the remote.

I am hoping there is a way to disabled the ultasonice part of the alarm - i.e a pet option. Or Valet/Disable alarm button no luck finding either.

For now I’ll Have to buy another remote as I only have one.

Can you not open your boot with the key either? I have an exec and have the same problem, unlocking the car with the key sets the alarm off, and I can't open or lock the boot with a key. I think it's a fault, otherwise why would there be a keyhole on the boot? I've always wondered if my keys aren't the original ones, and they may have been coded wrong

Tried this earlier today after seeing this thread and the same happens to me - Alarm goes off when key is turned in door

I spoke my local Honda Dealer and they confirmed the key will set of the alarm and I must use the remote. My model has no pet option or disable alarm/valet micro switch. But then I was phoning rather than speaking in person so they may have been cautious given I could be someone trying to steal a car!

They did say provided I started the car with a proper coded key, the alarm it will eventually ‘learn’ that I have not stolen it and disable the alarm so that I can drive home. This may take some time. A Honda Civic took 10 minutes for the alarm to disable.

So I have my answer how to get home, but if I get a new remote I will ask again if there is a way to disable the alarm.

I would like to pull plug on the Ultrasonic sensor to see if it makes a difference but for now I just want enjoy the car!
