Hi guys,

Last week I decided to see what is the right mileage of my car, I filled the tank to the top, drove about 120kms in city, most of them are 2.7 kms which take about 5/10 minutes, depending on traffic. Also important, I do this trips usually 4 times in the day, at 9:00 am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm and 17:30pm, so the car can settle down for a while between these small trips.

Then filled it to the top again, which took about 16 litres. Doing the math , it goes about 13.3 Litres/100Kms(21.23 imperial mpg), which is way too much, I guess

Then, I drove about 220km in open road and some free-way, usually between 120 - 140 km/h (74.56 - 86.99 mph), and the fuel level needle was about the same height it was when I filled it last time, taking the 16 Litres. ***uming it takes the same 16 litres, it made about 7.27 Litres/100km (38.85 imperial mpg) which is a huge difference. If it takes a bit more, its way less than while driving in city.

Now, my question, is that city mileage too low or is it normal?
When the car is reaching normal operating temperature I am getting to my workplace, thus bringing up the fuel consumption, but would that explain such an increase?

As for driving in open road, I guess that would be normal, or at least nothing out of the ordinary, right?

Note: Later in the day I will fill it to the top, to be sure how many Litres will it take. Will let you know later.

Hey Pedro,

That sounds about right by my estimation. I have to make one trip a day. if I drive through the city about 17 miles round trip I get about 16-20.7 miles per gallon. If I drive to the same destination using the motorway, 38 mile round trip I get 31-33 Miles per gallon. I find overall that if I use the car city driving I almost double my fuel bill over the course of 2 weeks (I fill my car every two weeks while using it normally)

I have just filled it to the top, it took 17 Litres, averaging 7.67L/100km(36.40) in a total of 232kms, pretty good, considering it was driving reasonably fast.

That's good to know, but I never thought that the miles per gallon would be so low in city driving.
