Having managed to buy a set of the OE 15" alloy wheels for the Accord, I need to get some tyres fitted.

The size is 195/65R15 91V.

What tyres will give me the best mileage/mpg d'ya reckon?

Do these low rolling resistance tyres actually save you petrol?

Hi Phil, on my VW Bora I fitted Kumho KH17 Solus tyres. They're cheap (around £200 for a set, fitted via BlackCircles.co.uk) but won an award from Which? and score fairly well for low rolling resistance.

I read that one in every five tankfuls of fuel is spent overcoming tyre resistance, so a good set will certainly save you money. I also elevate the tyre pressures a little, usually 35psi all round, as this helps economy too while maintaining good contact with the road.

Tyre resistance!?!

Surely tyre resistance (against the road) is what helps you accelerate, brake and corner. Overcoming that resistance would cause you to wheel spin, skin and slide off the road on corners.

While some tyres do have a higher silicone content this only saves you about 1 tank of petrol over the life of the tyre, if you drive carefully.

Surely air resistance would have a considerably higher impact on fuel consumption?!
