Hi All, I have a water leak on the near side of the car. The seatbelt is wet when pulled out, but the rear carpet is not. I have checked the flow of water through both the front sunroof drains and they are clear. Questions:
Are there rear sunroof drains?
If so how do you get to them?
How do I remove the side trim/roof trim to look for the blockage/leak?

Any other ideas/theories welcome.

I have already read some of the other comments on this, but have not sorted problem yet.
Thanks

Hi all no replies as yet please help!!! I have now got water in the passenger seat belt area, the nearside roof is wet from the back of the car to C post & there is water running down the the black plastic trim just below the rear side window. I have checked the sunroof drains and the water runs through these.

Do the roof rails attach to the roof or a bolt goes through the roof skin? If it goes through could it be this area?

Any ideas Please

Im not 100% but the roof rails might be the issue.Im sure some tourers dont have them fitted from stock so this might have been added at a later date to the car.

Hi Brett, I have just had the roof rail off and it has 6 bolts that are welded to the car roof, so no holes etc into the shell of the car! It must be the sunroof, just need some help pointers on taking the C post trim off. I have dropped some of the roof trim down and found a rusty clip, the passenger seat belt has been wet also. Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Brett, you were spot on! The roof rails are factory fit as it is an ex facelift 08 car. I jacked the car up from the front then just tipped water over the rear section of the channel where the bars attach and yes water started to come in. I have signs of rust behind the lining, so waiting for a dry day to clean and then try to seal in some way?

Thanks again

If I understand you correctly the water is coming in through the panel joint in the roof rail channel? Is this correct? If so I had exactly the same issue and have an old post somewhere. I took it to Honda and they just said they would reseal it. In the end I bought some sealant and did it myself. Have had no leaks since.

Glad to help Paul any updates on the leak is it now sorted.

Hi guys thanks for getting back to me. I thought I had sorted the leak, but no. I had sealed up part of the roof channel and then we put the roof bars on and went of camping for the weekend with surfboards on the roof. Woke up today car on a slope and yes puddle in the boot again! We have just had the rails off again and I have resealed the channel but more now, and Spud I see what you mean about the join in the channel thanks for the tip. I have then refitted the roof rails and cross bars to put them under load. I now await the result!

Well so far so good! We have had some major rain and so far still dry, so I have put the trim back on and see how we go.

Interesting. I get a wet o/s seat belt too, when the rain is hard. Thought it might be coming in the top of the window/door rubbers but no. Next idea was that it might be the sunroof seals had gone and the clever wee Honda men had put the drain channels to run down the B-pillar (door pillar). Could that be it? I think that the car has roof rails from new (it's an EX Tourer and I think they were standard) so hopefully that wouldn't be the issue.

Any ideas? Is it likely to be the sunroof or something else?

I've just discovered that my rear footwells are wet today... From reading the various posts on here, I'm going to give the roof rail channels a look first.

Interestingly, my wife's Jazz suffered from water running into the spare wheel well, which was getting in through the roof channels... Known issue with Jazzes - in the channel you can see where the roof joins up with the side panel for the car.
Honda used a sealant between the two pieces, however the sealant seems to go 'off' after a few years and starts to let water through. Clean up the channels, apply some silicon sealant and put everything back together seems to fix it!

I'll do the same to my Accord soon and report back on my findings!!

I changed out the gunk kit in the rear wheel well of my tourer for a space saver setup before I went away at the weekend and noticed a reasonable amount of water in the wheel well. Funny thing is I couldn't tell where it had come from as there are no missing grommets and there was a clear line of dry grit/dirt around the upper rim of the wheel well which rules out the water having dripped into it from above.

Finally got around to checking my tourer out last week. The water was getting in through the rear doors. The waterproof membrane had detached itself from behind the door card right in the middle near the bottom on both doors, handily just where there's a hole that water could drip straight through, running out from behind the door card and onto the carpet. Cleaned off the old sealant, applied some new stuff (not bathroom sealant, proper car stuff - can't remember the name) and all is well again!

Just need to get around to fixing everything else and it'll be as good as new...
