Accord type s tourer
My key is on it's last legs, it's for the 03 type s tourer with the locking and boot opening function.
Is it only the dealer who can get me a replacement and does anyone have an idea what they might charge/steal for this?

A decent locksmith should be able to sort this out for you. Look up Rossells on London Road Leicester and call them, or find a simialr Master Locksmith nearer to Peterborough.

Cheers mate, I went to one I town but they said they wouldn't touch one I bought from eBay. Company policy or something like that.

If it was a Master Locksmith then they're taking the right approach. With a Master Locksmith I would think that if you park the car outside and take your V5 and some ID with you, to prove you are who you are and the car is in your name, then they should be able to cut another key and transpose the fob to it for you (or you can say that you'll do the latter if it saves a bit of dosh).

Well I have just sent a local master locksmith an email so I shall see what I says. If not it could be an insurance job as I think the dealer would be more expensive.
I do have key cover on the insurance.

If your blade is fine just buy one of these and transfer the internals over. Simples.

No need for recoding

Cheers buddy, the blade is spot on however I can't find anyone to cut the new blade.

Nobody seems to want to touch these?

I'm a bit puzzled by that statement ?

do you mean you only have one key and want a second key

or do you mean you only have one key and its blade is on its way out

or do you mean you only have one key and the fob is cream-crackered

EDIT: I just called Rossells in Leicester and they say they might be able to cut the key if they have the right cutting equipment for it. I'm going down to them later in the week about something else so I'll show them my key. He said they don't need ID or a V5, just the original key. If they can get the blanks and have the equipment then they can do it. So it's the equipment that is going to be the issue on this. I'll let you know more after I've been to Rossells.

Do you need a complete new key or just to refurbish the key you already have. If its the latter you just use your existing key blade.

If its the former then be very careful with who you use to cut the blade, I had Timpsons cut my key when i had it done and it wasn't cut correctly and ruined my ignition barrel. Result was a 2 week wait to get one from Japan and Timpsons footing a bill of over £1000. Do not find yourself in the same predicament as i did.

Starting your car with a hacksaw blade and a key pressed against the ignition is not fun for two weeks, And is very hit and miss.

Sorry should be more specific. We only have one key, and at the moment the key fob is being held together with tape and a cable tie.
As far as I'm aware the blade is fine. The fella we bought the car from had bought a replacement key but not had it cut.
Possibly he also couldn't find some one with the correct equipment?
Cheers mate, appreciate that. Not to keen on waiting till it breaks and claiming on my insurance as I would be without my car for a while.

Just refurbish the key I have really!
I'm that case buy the key I linked on my previous post and refurbish your old key with it. You will be able to make it as good as new, it will just use your old blade instead of a cut new one.

If your buttons are ok this will be ideal.

Just remove the new blade and replace it with your old one. Put your buttons from your old case in the new case along with the immobiliser chip and you are good to go.

It will take no longer than 5 minutes. The stupidest of stupid people are more than capable of doing this.

Cheers mate, don't want anyone thinking I'm an idiot as I'm far from it but how do you remove the blade?
As far as I can see it is moulded into the actual plastic!
Perhaps I'm missing something?

That's a good question .... Neil ??

btw you can get the same thing as on ebay, from a Honda dealer, for £156.80

Item 6 here

edit: or you could save £19 by buying item 7 instead

It is molded to the rear of the shell. (think of it as a clam)

There is a tiny screw that needs removing then you split the clam. They key is molded to the bottom of the clam which you keep and just replace the front with the new parts.

If you need to replace the bottom part you will have to apply heat to the plastic and slowly melt the plastic to release the key blade then glue the old blade in place of the new one.
There is a guide for this procedure in the DIY section somewhere. It's unlikely that the bottom of your key case is damaged so it should be a case of just replacing the top half.

This probably sounds way more hectic than it needs to.

I have had my old accords keys apart a number of times for various reasons and Ican ***ure you it is very simple when you see what's in there.

The hardest part I found was removing the tiny pozi screw to allow you to split the shell as mine was well stuck. Some people have no issue but mine was not shifting so I ended up using brute force and just pulling the two parts apart which didn't matter as I was replacing them anyway.

as in my picture here

(note that Neil gave prompts in that too)

btw I'll still ask Rossells when I go there

Both the front and the rear of the case at damaged.
I think I will just wait until it breaks and claim on the insurance.
Don't fancy melting my only working key to be honest.
Appreciate all the help though.

Why don't you just buy the £5 key from eBay and practice on that. You would need to be a monumental spastic to get it wrong. Seriously its that easy to do.

It will be a whole lot cheaper than the excess on a replacement key.

And if you do somehow find a way of messing it up its only a fiver.

Personally I would use a gas hob if you have on instead of a candle so you don't get soot everywhere.

i took my key to a guy in leics, he said he could do chipped keys etc but when i gave him my one he said no way jose.

just got a blank one as a spare to open the door.

my original key is good car starts first time every time (apart from when the battery is dead :p)
