Hi

I was wondering what the best route was to fitting my sub and amp into my Accord.

My last car had a Kenwood after market head unit with USB, Bluetooth and pre amp outputs on the back (which I still have), so fitting the sub and amp was fairly straight forward.

The thing is, I don't want to mess around with the dash on the Accord fitting the Kenwood head unit and would much prefer to keep the original system that cam with the car.

My thought were:
  • Use a high level input converter and run it from the rear speakers to the low level inputs of the amp
  • Route the power lead from the battery into the boot.
  • Run the B+ lead from the back of the cigarette lighter to the remote (B+) terminal of the amp.

A friend of mine has a Mazda 6 Sport and this is the approach he took.

The question is... How easy is it to get the wiring behind the lighter without wrecking the console?

Any ideas or alternative suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cheers

I want to install my stereo stuff into my Accord aswell and was thinking along the same route as you.

I've found this one, http://www.hifonics.com/Hifonics_OEM_Integration_MX4.html

It looks a good bit of kit but I'm just worried about how good the signal will be once it hits the amp. The standard system sounds good for what it is and I've been reading that the manufacturers are messing around with fluid EQ's to make a bad system sound better than it should.

[*]Route the power lead from the battery into the boot.

Yep, that's a given. You don't want to take power from any of the car loom, it won't handle it, just remember to put a fuse as close to the battery as you can,

[*]Run the B+ lead from the back of the cigarette lighter to the remote (B+) terminal of the amp.

Very, already had mine off, takes about 5 minutes max.

I think I'm going to install my aftermarket headunit into the lower cubby but I want to keep the snazzy door on it. It looks possible with the aid of a Dremel, just wondering if anyone esle has done it?

i just replied in detail but it didn't post it, can't be writing all that on a phone again. Will do it when on computer. Just briefly theirs a remote wire behind the ashtray anyway, and it handles both stock and aftermarket easily. the power comes through the bulk under the glovebox, and runs down the sill to the back ok. You'll be hard pressed to find a strong earth in the back without drilling.

There's a cluster of earth wires in the boot on the offside behind the carpet near the rear lights.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Nick,

Do you have any pics of how to remove the console without damaging it?

Salim,

Can you show me a pic of the remote lead behind the ashtray? I've had a quick look and can only see the harness for the lighter with a multi plug on the end?

Cheers

You have to remove the ashtray holder, and the little cubby above it. i think 4 screws.
The you'll see the stock amp its black remove the two bolts. The remote lead is on one of the connectors, pin 14 yellow/green stripe.
