Faulty timing chain - advice needed!

Congratulations Rimas! Nice to hear your experience with HH was a good one (they usually ate).

Thanks guys, I am glad it's finally sorted!

There is just one small thing - there is now a high pitched "whining" noise coming from aux belt area that I'm sure wasn't there before. It's not too loud, but I can still hear it pretty well.

It appears at about 1500rpm and it's loudest at 2000rpm; it doesn't matter what speed the car is going, or if it's moving at all.

I just had these things replaced:

Timing chain kit
Manifold
Clutch
Aux belt

Any ideas what it could be??

Possibly a bearing on one of the pulleys that the aux belt goes round. Alternator, air con etc

You sure it ain't the turbo kicking in ;)

I don't think it is Dan, the turbo "whistle" is there as well, but it isn't the same noise...

It was slightly less noisy today, maybe it's normal when all those new bits are installed?

I'll give the HH a call tomorrow and see what they say...

Cheers

Congrats buddy looks like you have a brand new car!!!

so how does she feel now.
Cheers mate, the new chain/injectors/clutch have really made a difference, the engine is much quieter (apart from that annoying buzz, but it seems to be disappearing) and overall the car feels a bit quicker...or maybe that's just my imagination

P.S. HH are happy to check the car over if the buzzing sound doesn't go away, so I'll wait and see

So did Honda foot the bill for this on a facelift car then?

Honda UK supplied some parts as a good will gesture, which meant that my final bill was about 40% of what I was originally quoted by a main dealer.

thought ide take a few pics as its not often an engine is taken out of a honda.

Interesting pics there bud....

Is it me or are those welds really p*ss poor?

You see now, as a Diesel owner, pictures like that last one scare the pants off me

Looks a little bit bigger than the 1.0 litre 3 cylinder Corsa engine I recently did the timing chain on

its a lovely job to do with the engine out!............no point messing arround when doing an exhaust manifold and timing chain.

Thats good news then mate.

Cheers for uploading these photos, mate. It looks kinda scary when you see the engine out and open up like that...especially when it's YOUR CAR in the pictures!! :D :D
I hope there weren't any bits left on the floor after the engine got put back in!
Seriously though, cheers for good work lads, the car runs very smooth now :)

Oh boy, left the car in the dealer yesterday. They sad the noise is coming from the chain. The are proposing the case to Honda Portugal, for a free replacement. Don't know what will happen, as I missed the 100.000 km service (no stamp on the book), although I made the service myself (oil, filter, etc) and I change the oil every 10.000 km.
Let's see what happens.

Hi all - my noise (see my vid on page 3 of this thread) has come back (quite a bit louder this time). It does come and go - so not sure what to do.

I went to my local dealer and basically they said it could either be the timing chain, the alternator clutch or the oil pump chain??? - but basically I would have to pay them for a few hours labour for them to diagnose.

Is there any way I can self diagnose?? The honda bloke said i could try removing the alternator belt and I could run it for up to 15 mins (he said it wouldn't cause any problems) and if it stopped then this would mean that the alt clutch is the issue. Is there an easy way to do this (remove the belt) or is this something that I shouldn't touch?? I consider myself to be fairly handy (did the fuel filter change myself - so surely it can't be harder than that??)

I'm really skint at the minute - so need to sort it out asap and as cheaply as possible, also don't want to damage the car either by running it for too long whilst it makes this intermittent noise.

As always, any feedback greatly appreciated.

Car is 2.2diesel 54 plate almost 200k on clock - so I suspect that the timing belt is well due for replacement. By the way - how much should I expect to pay to have a new timing belt supplied and fitted??? and is this something that anyone can do - or does it need to be Honda that does it??

One last thing - is this type of thing covered if I was to take out one of the 3rd party warranty deals??

I think your main problem with an aftermarket warranty would be your mileage. Warrantydirect who I've used before (very good service) would want a 50% parts contribution but would cover all labour.

Oh for wear and tear though you've got to leave it 90 days and prove the wear wasn't preexisting.

Carl, I was quoted 3000 quid by a main dealer to get mine replaced - see my opening message in this topic. The main cost is the 4 injectors and labour. I mannaged to get some free parts from Honda UK, but you might be less lucky due to your mileage, but I'd give them a call anyway.
