does the door of your centre console bin open nice and slowly, or does it open so fast that it makes a little thud which makes everything inside it jump?

i had to take my bin out recently to fit the Xcarlink, and it now the door opens with a thud, but i can't remember if it did that before i took the bin out or not!
:(

Have you put the clip back on that's on the left hand side? I think it's some form of damper to steady it when opening.

Hi Paul.
Not sure which clip you're referring to?
Does your door open nice and gently, or does it open with a small thud?

I have taken the unit out again for a closer inspection.
As far as i can tell, the door moulding incorporates a toothed plastic arc on the left side; as the door rotates open (by spring action) the arc motion turns a small plastic gear wheel, which provides the resistance.
I have confirmed this by removing the gear wheel and witnessing the door slam open quite hard!
The gear wheel is stiff, but i can't see a way to make it more stiff!

Unless there is a part somewhere that I am missing or have lost?

OK stupid question here, is the centre console bin the storage area that is behind the handbrake between the two front seats? If so, ours in manual you have to open it by hand and pull it up to get it to open.

Or, are you talking about a different console that is only on the saloons?

Sorry my bad. I didn't read the topic and thought you were referring tothe glove box. Sorry.

Is it where the sat nav equipped vehicles have the DVD drive?

haha, sorry about the confusion!
it's none of the above.
it's the unit below the radio, with a large door that opens in a garage door style.

A picture paints a thousand words:

It's the large door on cars with no SatNav and no 6CD changer? From what I remember of 3 years ago when I had one you press the bottom of the door and it flips up, it's not damped really but it didn't ever 'thud' very hard - must be a bit like yours where it just doesn't damp enough!
