My car has some 'Bury' mobile phone kit stuck to the dash, for a Nokia 90210 or somesuch, and a microphone stuck to the map light bit, both with trailing wires (maybe they didn't know how the HFT worked, or didn't want to upgrade their phone to bluetooth!).
Anyway, the holder seems to have some electrically taped cable going through a hole in the top right of where the glovebox closes, I'm guessing it goes to power and maybe to the stereo somewhere? The mic cable goes up under the map light block - not sure if this would be wired into the internal mic up there?

Anyone else had this? Anyone know what I'm likely to need to remove and sort out? I'm scared to take the dash apart. Could I just snip the wires?

You might find the cable from the holder go to a control box most likely hidden behind the glove box. Would not think they would have done anything to the internal mic. The control box will connect the external mic and also the cables going to the stereo from sound the mute fuction and also power. to remove it would just be a case for tracing the cables from the mic and holder.
In the past when i have removed old car kits. I have just removed the control box, mic and holder sorted out the wires and made them safe behind the dash as I too dont like taking to much apart.
not sure if this help mate.

Should the car have built-in BT for a phone?

Mine's got the HFT (Hands Free Telephone) option, buttons on the wheel for voice recognition control and bluetooth to set up a phone. Unless the Bury thing is just for charging, not sure why it would have the mic there though.

My car has HFT and a Nokia kit... some people (me included) don't get on with Hondas system.
