Accord se 6th gen
Hi all. So, After much searching on the googleator with no results, I've decided to pose my question here. I have a 2001 accord 2.0l SE VTECH (F20B6 Engine). There's a rattle on cold start-up that gets quieter as the motor heats up. I't only occurs between 2000 and 3000 Rpm. It sounds as if its coming from under the rocker cover but its one of those rattles thats hard to pinpoint! When the engine is warm it gets quieter but doesn't disappear completely. I have also noticed a slight flat spot/miss under acceleration between 2000 and 3000 Rpm also. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm using 10w 30 fully synthetic oil. Have given the car a full service, changed plugs, filters, cleaned egr valve and ports, cleaned throttle body and iacv. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

As M said or your valve clearance might need checking.Im not an expert but might be worth a shot.
Cliff done his own in a 2.4 7th gen here is the link.

    TO be fair to you though, i didn't know this till a couple of months ago

But as has been mentioned a few times, i'd put my money on VCs. Almost certain of it. But good on you for giving the whole car a full service.

Cheers. I do have a fair amount of experience tho. Several nut and bolt restos on various cars/bikes over the past few years (this is more of an introduction than a chance to toot my own horn  ). Tappets were my first thought. I like to ask people with experience with a particular motor that know the ins, outs and niggles! I've only had the accord for a month now. I needed a solid reliable car for cheap and i got a great car! Thanks for the advice and I'll keep you posted about the job in hand!

Before i got my R i used to have a W reg one with the F20B6 engine in and got to know loads about it by doing silly amounts of reading. So hopefully between Saj, myself and a few others we'll be able to answer any questions you have.

The people on this forum are very knowlegeable, and keen to help. And because you've got a history or handing spanners you should be able to carry out all the jobs yourself. B)
