Hi guys
Yikes ! Last night I was late, late, late and I my Honda Accord Tourer (2007) diesel 2.2 chewed through the tank FAR faster than the "miles left" and I ended up doing the last 10 miles on "zero". How many more miles do you think I still have in my tank (if I now drive very carefully??)
And just how serious a problem is it to get it restarted again if I run out completely?
I think the nearest garage is prob another 5 or 10 miles away...!

I wouldn't risk it mate. Get a jerry can and get some diesel in her. You are now running all the rubbish at the bottom of the tank through.

Not sure how many more miles left but I wouldn't like to find out either

Haven't a clue, only ever had mine down to sixteen.
But I doubt you've got 10 miles left, especially from cold.

If you run out of fuel you will have to bleed the system like when you changed the FF

I keep reading that most modern cars do 50-100 miles "on empty" but I don't know it that means after the Please Refuel light comes on ... Or after it has got to Zero miles left!!

In the book it states there are 2 gallons of fuel left when the light comes on.

+1 you are clogging the filters/pump with dirt and as mentioned you will need to pump the fuel

Okay - here is the post mortem.

In the end I chickened-out and found a can and got a friend to take me to the petrol station.
For the record I put 5.5 litres from can in and then (4 miles later) put 52.5 litres in, filling it RIGHT up to the brim.
This is a total of 58.0 litres.

Now although I dont know the real EXACT tank capacity of my car according this site:
http://www.checkthatcar.com/car_data.asp?make=Honda&model=Accord%20Tourer%202.2i%20CTDi%20Sport
... it should be 65 Litres.

This means (ignoring the 4 miles I drove between) that I still had 7.0 litres left.
i.e. about 1.54 imperial gallons.
***uming I was driving slowly/carefully this morning I should have been able to get at least 50 miles/gallon (maybe 55?)
==> I could have got 50*1.54 another 77 (maybe 85) miles left !

Cluck-cluck !

(P.S. Anyone know what the REAL fuel capacity size of a 2007 Diesel Honda Accord Tourer is?)

Mines a 2004 pre facelift. From when the light comes on I have covered 80 miles and was still 4 litres short of the specified capacity. in totaL I reckon I could push 100 miles without too much of a worry.

65 litre tank, when light comes on you have 10 litres left in the tank...

Btw, do any of you guys have the same problem that after the light comes on, it gets through the miles much faster than it says it will?

On long-ish journeys my car is currently doing 47 to 50MPG depending on how hard I'm pushing it (e.g. 75-85 MPH on the motorways) - but it got through the last "50 miles" in about 25!

I know its been said before, but I'll say it again. Driving a car on an almost empty tank is asking for trouble.

I wouldn't trust the gauge either way, someone could say they've done 87.4 miles before running out, but I might only get 60 miles out of mine. I wouldn't expect they're calibrated to very high tolerances.

More importantly it depends how and where their driving. I.e motorways or town.
