Hi

How can I get my hands free phone to connect MORE RELIABLY ? (to my iPhone 3G - iOS v5.01)

Although I have managed to connect ("pair") my iphone with the hands free telephone in my 2007 Honda Accord (Tourer Exec), and although I can get it to make calls and receive calls... it is EXTREMELY temperamental at connecting when I make a call. OK, what happens is that when I make a call I get 3 buttons appear on my iPhone. If I do nothing it fails to connect. If I click the "Honda HF" button *sometimes* it connects, sometimes it does not. I've tried pushing HARD, double clicking, clicking lightly, clicking just once, etc but nothing works reliably. It just seems very VERY moody! Sometimes it simply refuses to connect at all to a phone number - even though the other party is answering. Very strangely connecting to voicemail seems more reliable.

Btw, I find it extremely irrirating that apparently I cant play music using my iPhone's bluetooth connect. (Gads! Give me the head of the designer of these things in a box.)

I was thinking of updating the entire SatNav software - which is now about 4+ years old - but my local Honda dealer said it would cost £150 (or similar)... just for the DISK!

The only other alternative would be to replace the entire radio (+ satnav?) to get something with a built-in iPhone connection. Yours for about £350... WTF.

P.S. I have tried abandoning my HFT and using a bog-standard (white) Apple (wired) headset but people find it hard to hear what I am saying.
I was even thinking about a nice (bluetooth) noise cancellation headset e.g. Aliph Jawbone but (2 years ago) I couldnt find an in-car charger (and even if I could it would be asking to get stolen unless hidden/removed from the car each time you park). (Mind you I now see that the "Aliph Jawbone Icon Hero" is quite well reviewed on Amazon...)
Or perhaps a (wired) Blackbox i10 headset but they are quite a lot of money (c. 90 quid).
Help - I am getting desperate !

Xcarlink?

Xcarlink?

Well - that is one option I suppose.

But including VAT +Shipping they are 84 quid, and that's before labour...
Frankly if I was to go that far I might as well get something with a proper cradle so that I can see the phone as I drive, but it doesnt SEEM that xcarlink make them (??)

I have an old 3G iphone as well and mines running iOS v4.2.1 (the latest version itunes will allow me) and I have no problems connecting or maintaining the bluetooth connection. But I think I remember another member having a problem with their iphone 4S using iOS v5.01. So it might be the iOS version being to new for the car rather than the bluetooth or the HFT system. You could try restoring your phone to it's original iOS version and see if it works better?

Funny you should mention the 3 buttons appearing on the phone. Mine used to do that when I first paired my phone for a while, I'd have to accept the call on the phone by pressing the Honda HF button, then press the pick up button on the steering wheel to get the call through the HFT system. Strangely though one day it stopped doing this and now I can pick up the call just using the buttons on the steering wheel (which is what it should do) and it's been that way ever since.

Still haven't managed to transfer the blooming phone book over yet though. :(

No, for me picking up incoming calls is easy - I just hit the pickup button on the steering wheel.
It's MAKING calls that is the problem !

Do I need to update the software on my Honda system?
(I am ***uming that the CD/Satnav/Radio/HFT are all on the same system!)

Do any of you know how to do that?

are you dialling through HFT? did you add numbers to HFT phone book? when I dialling through phone it always 3 buttons comes out to choose audio source, hft ,phone and something else :p but when I calling through HFT there's no problem at all just press button on steering wheel ,call and that's it no troubles with connection B)

I think a software upgrade would involve buying newer sat nav discs.

But if another member who's updated their disc could confirm that would be good.

I have exactly same car as ship69 in fact I upgraded my software in sat nav when I got newer maps but even on old software HFT works well

> are you dialling through HFT?

Er no, I am dialing throught the iphone itself.
I dont think I know how to import all my phone numbers into the HFT.

> when I dialling through phone it always 3 buttons comes out to choose audio source, hft ,phone and something else
Yes... me too
But if you select "Honda" it will *sometimes* connect.

> but when I calling through HFT there's no problem at all just press button on steering wheel ,call and that's it no troubles with connection
No doubt.
But I have a large number of different people to call.
How (the heck) do I import them all onto the HFT?

When you say the HFT works well, do you mean only phone calls that are initiated through the HFT system or do you mean that you can initiate call on the phone and then make the call through the system.

I have a TomTom satnav which works much much better than the built in satnav, (faster GPS positioning, knows where you are more accurately, much less ugly interface, etc etc) so I am reluctant to pay c. £150 to upgrade the satnav... i.e. in effect just to get my phone to be able to make out-going calls.

I dont think I know how to import all my phone numbers into the HFT.

you need to add every number and name separate to HFT manually to do this you need:
press talk button say Phonebook after HFT response say Store then just fallow what HFT is talking to you basicly you saying name then number and after when HFT confirm number just say enter and HFT response will be "name has been stored.returning to main menu" and just need to repeat everything to add another number,

didn't noticed any issues with mine

as above need to do it manually.

Thanks. I was vaguely aware of this route but I must admit that I was ***uming/hoping there must be an easier method by now.
e.g. I was hoping we might be able to patch the computer somehow with an update and get bluetooth to sync address lists... or something similar !
Is that the best Honda can do? - how very depressingly "last century" !

Oh well.

unfortunatelly we're not so lucky or our HFT is no't so smart :p to do this for us.
