Ok - the saga of the squealing drive belt continues!
While it's not a major issue on my 2005, series 7 Tourer, it is annoying. I initially replaced the drive belt in January 2023 (Dayco p/n 7PK1759) and it didn't stop the squealing noise. I decided to replace the drive belt tensioner to see if that would help. With the genuine Honda item costing over £240.00 from my local Honda dealer - I had second thoughts. While I've owned the car for nearly 9 years now and it's been a damn good load carrier etc. with 125,000 miles I couldn't justify spending that amount. I shopped around and found a Ridex tensioner pulley from the German supplier Autodoc and at a very reasonable price.
Following fitting instructions from Hondatheotherside.com and purchasing a belt tensioner tool (a big help) I did the job. It was reasonably straightforward if a bit fiddly with a couple of securing bolts. However, it didn't eliminate the squealing noise. So another new Dayco belt fitted in late May - and guess what? The belt is still squealing!!!

I would welcome any tips or advice - or is it something I just accept?

On another note I'm considering a test drive in a Subaru Legacy estate on sale locally. I know it's probably heresy to raise the subject but it is only a test drive!

I trust you have done the alcohol rubbing in all places to remove any dirt and oil from any area after replacing things (do you have greasy hands ?)

Is there a fluid loss that might end up in the right hand area (engine/gearbox/steering pump/clutch/coolant/brakes/aircon) ?

Legacy Estates - great if serviced regularly but eventually a money pit, at least the Accord usually gives you warning before letting loose.
Are they ULEZ compliant ?

Choose wisely

could be a wrong belt apparently, or other pulley things.

Thanks for you reply - no fluid loss, and no greasy hands! No I haven't tried alcohol rubbing.
Re the Legacy - I had a test drive and an ok drive, but on return and as soon as I started to drive "the old girl" (the Accord) I knew which one I preferred.
Also, as a Japanese import I didn't realise the insurance implications - but at the end of the day after nine years of ownership I know the Accord and I want to keep it on the road, and I still enjoy driving it.

Thanks for you reply and as far as I'm aware it's the correct belt. Maybe I should try a genuine Honda item - if my bank balance will allow.
I'll check out the price of a genuine item.

I ***ume you have already done the short belt update and idler pulley removal on the ICTDI

Maybe you have installed the original longer belt and the original idler pulley has already been removed causing the squeal

Those tensioners are super tight and really tenses up the belt so belt slippage is really quite rare

I've come across this and it's certainly worth considering. My Accord is a petrol engine but I ***ume the same will apply. I will take a look at the shorter belt version and let you know how I go on, and thanks for the tip.
