    I've been and picked up 500kg of coal for my multi fuel burner (no central heating, doh!) and no significant drop in mpg. Did look scarily cool on the back end. Brakes was the problem for my low mpg, took me ages to sort, ended up with new brake fluid and two new rear calipers.

    I'd sort the brakes first then re-evaluate, the binding may have gotten worserer and even spread to other calipers.

    I think you need keys with a transmitter in that can be programmed to the car. Have you been in touch with the people who supplied them? They must be at fault.
