    Vtec not kicking in

If the oil hasn't been done in that long then definitely get that done as soon as you can. Personally, I'd get it done again in a few months to help flush out any nasties. If it's working intermittently then it could be a case of low oil pressure or some sort of blockage. It is a very simple...

    Vtec not kicking in

Hi, The V-Tec system is fairly straight forward luckily. I saw something about it on Wheeler Dealers when they did an S2000 where the oil chamber was blocked and prevented it from activating. Do you have any warning lights showing on the dash at all? Is your oil level ok? Any other problems in...

    Battery Light Issue

Here's the info for the belt: https://app.box.com/s/1ft3flj48oje64kwnued8ar6alyu8yyf It's never nice knowing your car's laid up, I had the starter go in mine about a month ago. Getting the bus to go and get a new one sorted was horrid. 40mins each way when I knew I could drive it in 10. And...

    Battery Light Issue

Sorry to hear that. Here's the ESM info on the alternator: https://app.box.com/s/yqp1yhbs8fa631a4a41tzisgexajaj7l It's located on the top right of the block to the front of the engine bay. Fairly easy to get at.

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

The Honda stuff is blue and ready mixed. No idea what was in mine before but the old water pump was spotlessly clean. I actually thought they hadn't put the new one on at first. Thankfully the last owner took great care of the mechanicals of the car even when they stopped using it so much. New...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

It's a bad habit of mine hah. I do 200 miles a week just going to work so I try to keep ahead of anything. Luckily for these parts are fairly reasonable prices and easy to get hold of. I spent about £140 for parts and all were Blueprint which I'd recommend for any Japanese car. Surprisingly the...

    Battery Light Issue

I'd still say the alternator is probably fine. Unless they tested it at the unit then it'd be hard to tell until that cable's back in place. Get that done, jump start it and break out the multimeter. You should see 14v at the battery. Take it for a run to get some charge back in it and check...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

Got mine back today from having all the belts done, water pump, new Honda coolant and got them to chuck on the dizzy cap and rotor while it was there. Had new leads and some top notch Denso plugs after I bought it. Absolutely lovely now. Perfectly silent and when given a poke it takes off like a...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

I think you can remove the top portion of the cover easily enough. Just need to remove the rocker cover first and away you go. The balance belt is hidden a bit deeper but if you're going to do the cambelt a decent timing kit should supply both.

I bet that was an interesting one to explain hah.

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

The first thing that happens with any car I buy is the plugs, leads and air filter get swapped right away for good quality ones or OEM. Since getting my Accord it's had that and mid way through getting the belts, water pump, fuel filter and some other minor bits done. Also a nice set of tyres...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

The fuel filter is hidden under a panel in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side. There's a how to around here somewhere if you fancy tackling it yourself. According to the ESM Honda deem this an unessential item to service until the fuel pressure really drops. But after 17 years it's a...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

Hi Alan, Welcome to the world of 6th gen ownership. Shame about the brake lines, it's one thing that can be easily overlooked and not uncommon for sellers to try and cover up. All too often I drive cars where the brakes are positively dangerous. Some people just really don't care. Hopefully...

    Battery Light Issue

If you have aircon it won't be working if this is the case. That and you'd get to the point where you can't start the car or it'll stop dead while you're going along as the battery will drain fairly rapidly. I'd ***ume during 9 years you've had the belts done a couple of times so this is...

    Battery Light Issue

No problem. As for testing the alternator a multimeter will give you a good idea of any issues. Set it to DC and test across the battery with the engine running and you should see ~14 volts. If it's reading ~12.5v or less then there's no charge going to the battery. Which may be the case at the...

    Battery Light Issue

This is a common point for rot to look out for as it is very exposed and has spent years getting wet and mucky. It was the first thing I renewed on mine as my dad had a similar issue a few years back with his. We have 3 Accords in the house, two of them 2.0 6th gen's. The original cable is...

    Lower Ball Joints.

I just checked on Blue Print live and they don't have a listing for the lower ball joint but the track rods are only about £20 each and probably a lot easier than trying to get the ball joint out. Just checked Euro's too and they're not exactly clear are they. Good quality parts and saves the...

    Braided brake lines

Thanks. The car stops fine enough but could certainly do with a fluid change. I've got service invoices from the last 11 years or so and don't recall it being listed on any of the recent ones. The current pads and discs seemed fine when I last had the wheels off, just a bit lived in. Probably...

    Braided brake lines

Thanks. I don't drive the car hard (like an old woman in my own car) but I do drive it a lot so was thinking it might be worth it. Didn't know they would be enough of a mod to need to inform the insurance so that's that out of the window. The cheeky blighters charge me enough as it is. That...

    Braided brake lines

Hi all, Over the next couple of months I'm planning of getting a good pile of bits together to fit to the car. I've had it since October and have happily stuck 5k miles on it (was 84.5k). Short of the starter motor giving up the ghost nothing else too exciting has happened yet. The car goes and...
