Thanks for the suggestion, it's not in that area though. It's certainly downpipe area. Had a look around them and no black deposits too.

Sadly it was completed pre my ownership so I don't know if it's just normal. It certainly seems quiet enough when running around and no fumes /smoke. Just seems a tad noisy around that area with the bonnet up.

Thank you f6had, that's really useful. I don't think mine is cracked from that description, but I still want to rule it out. It just sounds a bit noisy around the downpipe area.(gutted dpf before my ownership). No ticking but just a bit more noise than I'd expect. I can have a nose and see if...

I want to have a check of the egr pipe and condition , I had a quick nose but it didn't jump out at me as it its location.
