    Timing chain failing

In either case wouldn't I smell fumes or diesel? No smells in cabin at any time or in engine bay.

    Timing chain failing

Could be. It does seem to be only when cold, once it's been running for 20-30 mins it seems to go away and I feel confident booting it a bit more :D Maybe I'm just paranoid. It had the manifold changed by Honda last year.

    oil help

What does it sounds like running? I guess you don't know how long it's been low for? I would also top it up to the midway point on the dipstick with what you've got, then get an oil change done with 0w30 and a genuine Honda filter as soon as you can.

    Timing chain failing

Yeah I went into the workshop with him when he did it, still fine now just below the max and they definitely used 0w30. About 1000 miles before the change I had tyres done, the tyre place did some winter check and topped up half a litre of oil as it was low, they used 5w30 which was annoying.

Done that! Did 3 journeys up to Chertsey and back the week after the oil change! :P

    Timing chain failing

It was a garage that did it when they were doing my brakes. Last time they had the car in over a year ago they were pushing to flush it but not sure if they did this time or not. I didn't actually request the oil change because of the noise it was simply because it had been 5k ish since the last...

    Timing chain failing

I've got a disconcerting diesel type noise coming from my car, mostly when cold and under load - so much that I'm annoying people now by pulling away really slowly. :D The best way I can describe it is like pinking, I had it in an old modified petrol car that had det issues and needed colder...

without being sexist can i say...

Statistics don't take into account mileage. My mum hasn't crashed for 35 years, because she doesn't drive! She has a driving licence so is included in statistics. Also men tend to have the driving jobs like travelling salesmen, taxi drivers, truckers/couriers etc. whereas women tend to do more...

Car starting problems and jerking sometimes when accelerating

Sounds like lack of fuel like fuel pump seals or something. Never heard of it on the Accord though maybe someone else knows more.

    Type-S Tourer Sticky Rear wheel

Jack it up, push the brake pedal down hard then check the wheel to see if it spins. Leave it for an hour and then spin it again. If it's freed up it's most likely the flexible hose feeding the caliper. At least that's what it was on both sides on mine!!

    why no 2.4s?

VED first year is more than following years. Accord Tourer EX 2.2 i-DTEC Manual = £135 then £135 after that 2.2 i-DTEC Auto = £275 then £195 after that 2.4 i-VTEC Manual = £600 then £270 after that 2.4 i-VTEC Auto = 460 then £250 after that According to Honda.

How long are you people planning to hang on to your cars for - and why?

I had a new Civic courtesy car a few months back and thought the same thing, really horrible and noisy and crashy and hard.

If you were banned from buying a Honda Accord, what would be your next best choice?

Whenever I've looked at Subarus they always appear lower quality than Hondas and other cars, just low spec and not very modern interiors. Never driven one though.

Car mileage vs maintenance costs (if NOT done yourself)

I've honestly never worried about it. Maybe I'm odd.

Or an RS6, nothing wrong with that autobox.

Car mileage vs maintenance costs (if NOT done yourself)

Service at Honda: Get a courtesy car for the day. Get to look over their new cars in the dealership. Get a cup of tea and a sit down, can watch TV or read a magazine. Service at local garage: Hand keys over, walk to work in the rain. Get greasy dirty keys handed back to me, after walking from...

How long are you people planning to hang on to your cars for - and why?

I've never had a car longer than 18 months before, I've now had the Accord 16 months! However I think I'll keep it until I can afford my RS6 :D
