My brakes on one occasion made a horrific noise without any advanced indication from the audible warning tag. Inspection showed sods law had come into play, the pad with the tag on still had plenty of meat on it but the other pad was down to bare metal.

The compressor and temporary sealant are kept in the same place the spare wheel and security tool goes. :P

Glad you got it sorted but now look on ebay for a spare wheel and save yourself all the hassle that comes with pumps and slave wheels. Got mine with a good tyre for £40.

Because the squeak is intermittent you could try feathering the brake when it happens to see if anything changes.

I agree with Jon, I would eliminate brake pad wear before looking anywhere else.
