    MOT fail

Will do. From what he says he'll strip the lot and rebuild but without seeing it he feels only pads will be needed. He said something about once the piston comes out too far it will lock in place anyway which gives the impression it's totally seized, he says his experience is overwhelming that...

    MOT fail

Can I ask where you got your caliper from?

    MOT fail

Just spoke to my mate who is a mobile mechanic but not local. He said he'll come and have a look on Monday, he'll strip the caliper and rebuild it and put new pads in and take it from there. Worst case scenario wont be anything like £500.

    MOT fail

No, local garage I've used for years. Got them down to £500, that's for a new caliper (not recon), discs, pads, new flex pipes, handbrake shoes, new brake fluid. Re exhaust, it seems it's where the exhaust splits is the problem but it's passed on that so I'll sweep that under the carpet for...

    £600 f@*k me

    MOT fail

Failed on seized rear brakes, seized caliper, pads down etc etc. Advisory on exhaust, they said it failed emissions first time round as there's a crack in the joint to the back box but they sealed it and it passed. Exhaust wont get through next MOT, so that's a new exhaust a some point. Just...

7th Gen - Rubbish for kids car seats

I have two on the back, one isofix one not. Not had a problem with either of them. I find it tight in the back though, I would've preferred a few mm off the boot size and added it to the rear passenger compartment.

    Applying WD40

With the wet weather and my car standing still for a few days at a time I thought it might be an idea to give the electrics a dose of WD40 but what do I actually treat?

    MTEC discs and pads

I have them, bit noisier under braking but nothing much really. If/when I get another set I'll defo go for one of the coated options. By the way, I used Ceretec instead of copper grease and it's been great.

    Positive Battery Terminal

Had the same problem. Mechanic told me to put a small screw between the clamp and terminal and tighten. Did it, problem very effectively solved.

    2.4 Battery upgrade

Well all I know is that my car is miles better with a screw between the clamp and the battery post!

    2.4 Battery upgrade

The difference is beyond belief. It feels lively again, the climate is cycling in and out again and the air is freezeing (thought I was due a air con recharge). It now takes one crank to starthe and the sat navime starts up first time - it still doesn't like an interrupted power supply mind...

    2.4 Battery upgrade

Well the battery wouldn't come off last night but after brief drive this morning it came clean off with little pressure. No wonder I've been having problems! A quick call to a mechanic I know asking if he know where I can get shims resulting in a quite bizarre solution; he said forget shims...

    2.4 Battery upgrade

I've done quite a bit of asking around this morning with no joy. Whilst I do agree the battery should be okay, I just think that a 45aH battery is too small but typical of Jap cars. One thing I have noticed is that I can move the positive clamp on the battery terminal, it wont come off but I...

    2.4 Battery upgrade

The short and infrequent journeys I'm currently doing are taking their toll on the battery. I had a new one fitted a few months back at the local car electrical garage and he was laughing at how small the battery was. The mechanic next door couldn't believe the battery size when he popped his...

    Sat Nav/AC/Info system

You're right Alan. What's annoying is that I suspected the battery from day one, I mentioned it to garage who serviced the car who said it wouldn't be that (and fitted a new ignition barrel). It's still all working fine so it's looking increasingly likely the battery was shot from day one...

    Sat Nav/AC/Info system

Possible I suppose but I do check battery connections on a regular basis. Anyway, just been out and everything is still fine, can leave it on aux then start it and it's working. What ever has happened it seems to be sorted.

    Sat Nav/AC/Info system

The system does reboot when you go from aux to start however it never worked for me, I'd just had a dead screen. The only way I could get it to work was a clean sweep from key in to start..so to speak. Recently it had been getting worse, many occasions it just come up with the 'error' screen...

    Sat Nav/AC/Info system

I had tracked down the problem the the dvd drive, an interruption in power causes the unit to shut down or in some cases not start at all. My next plan of action was to get a new dvd transport from Alpine (about £28) and replace that a long with the caps in the power supply. However like I've...

    Sat Nav/AC/Info system

Well I'd given up on this problem. No one could come up with a solution other than get a new one! I had considered stripping it down bit time constraints mean that will never happen. Now this is bizarre; I had new battery fitted yesterday (as mentioned in another thread) and since then it's...
