Yep all modern diesels will have DPF problems if they dont get enough miles each day. In contrast the petrol models are almost bombproof if well maintained. Plus you get the great VTEC experience revving it.

Yep the 17" tyres in that size are not cheap. 8th gen has a fair bit of tyre noise so check the noise ratings. I went for £60 Accellera tyres, bit noisy on the motorway, should have gone for Goodyear. IMO 3mm is acceptable on a used car, winter is a few months away.

If you are not the 1st owner of the car, might it have been filled with petrol at some point, this would wear the fuel pump causing the filings.

I guess you would have to ask them their reasoning behind it. Probably just saves them money by buying one type of oil for their massive tank. A fully synth oil has a very strong film, no matter how thin it is, so should not increase engine wear.
