    trouble Filing Up

thanks for the replies guys. So, pulled the clocks from the new Tourer. Somebody definitely been in there, as one screw missing and one incorrect. Stripped the back off the clocks, the stepper motors for the gauges are soldered to the mainboard, so fixed in position. Can't see any evidence of...

    trouble Filing Up

Just compared it to my broken Tourer (both 04 cars) and the fuel and temp gauges are approx 5 degrees further anticlockwise at rest in the new one! I can't think of a technical reason for this, other than somebody has been in there tampering, which makes me very suspicious. Anyone know where...

    trouble Filing Up

Appears the new Tourer has a few more 'issues' than I originally picked up! Latest one to be discovered is a filling up problem. Despite my greatest efforts, I can't get a tank full in it according to the gauge and my wallet :) I'm not 100% sure the gauge is starting in the right place, which...

    Oil switch

Hi Phil, If you follow the dipstick tube down to the sump, you'll find the oil pressure switch just above and to the left of the tube. The crank sensor is down there too(to the left) but it has a lead, the oil switch doesn't Robin

rear brakes repair opinion on estate

Is there a reason people are buying reconditioned calipers? Why not just pop the piston out, flush it all out, clean the piston, change the seal and pop it back in? It's probably one of the easiest jobs to do if you've got a few basic tools and the seal kit is around £30 Robin

    Advice on oil pressure wanted

I agree Brett, But lets face it, if we weren't messing around with cars, we'd only be indoors annoying the wife :) Although I have to say, scrabbling around under cars on a cold drive for hours has a somewhat different effect on my body than I remember it having when I was 20 :D Robin

    Advice on oil pressure wanted

Phil, This sounds to me like a failed oil pump chain. If it ran for long enough without oil pressure for you to notice a change in engine tone, indicating the engine is tightening up, it's probably too late. As an indicator, my chain snapped when I was driving through town early in the morning...

    Audio Issues

Right, Although I couldn't verify the part number, I can confirm for anyone who has an accord with a premium sound system fitted, the unit has a separate power amplifier mounted below the DVD player, just in front of the gear selector mechanism. Just swapped the amp from my old tourer to the...

They'd look much better in a dark anthracite grey? Robin

    Audio Issues

Sweet, thanks for that. Lists the amp separately, which is contradictory to most info I've seen. There is a unit fixed to the floor in front of the gear selector mechanism, I'll check it's part number later and report back. Robin

    Removing the sump

Hi You can remove the sump in car without removing the subframe. You will however need a cross strut lifting beam, as the sump doesn't quite clear the subframe with the engine sat in it's usual position, you need to lift it a couple of inches. You also need to either remove or loosen the air...

    Audio Issues

Thanks for the reply Tomas. Yeah my money's on the driveshafts too. I'm lucky enough to have a donor car to swap parts from, so haven't looked at buying, suspect the cost of driveshafts isn't cheap! After a bit more research, I believe you're correct, the amp is part of the audio unit...

    Audio Issues

Hi all Having paid to have the oil pump and timing chain replaced on my tourer, she threw a big end within 800miles. Was always a gamble following the oil pump chain breakage, no matter how quick it was switched off. Anyway, her replacement has been purchased for peanuts, 158k on clock, timing...

    engine removal

Thanks Chris If you're talking of removing the subframe, that implies to me, dropping the engine out the bottom? which Isn't an option on my drive :) I was going to lift it out, so shouldn't need to touch the subframe? Cheers Robin

    engine removal

Thanks Brett I don't see the mechanical work as an issue, I'm fully kitted up with engine crane and stand, well once I get my 300zx block out of it! But some engines are just a pain to get out, such as the 300zx. So thought it best to pick peoples brains and learn by their mistakes, rather...

    engine removal

Gents, First post, so be kind :) Have a 54 plate diesel tourer (160k miles) with a broken oil pump chain. fortunately happened as car was started, so no permanent engine damage due to oil starvation. As I'm well aware of the timing chain issues, intention is to do both at same time. Quote from...
