Do I need a 'special tool' to retract the rear brake pistons. The last Accord I had about 4yrs ago (Type 'V') had this arrangement. I remember the old P6 Rover 2000's had a similar set-up but you could remove the disc and turn the piston back by hand. Is this possible on the Accord?. Thank you. PS.....I still have the old Rover tool in the garage!!

It depends:

1. On the Saloon the rear callipers are the wind-back type (integrated handbrake ratchet)
2. On the tourer the rear callipers are push back (separate handbrake shoes)

The tool is nothing special and I just use an old piece of large metal when winding back in pistons.

Thanks Jason, I have the saloon. Good to know it can be done. I've just bought it and apart from a broken fog light glass , its the only job that needs doing soon.

Yeah, the Accord is pretty straight-forward to work on and they are super reliable - you'll only have small jobs to do.
