2.2 I-cdti Exec..... USB Install....

Guuuuud Evening one and all....

So, In my short time on this forum, I've learned 2 things today.....

#1 - My heartfelt thanks to all of you who have posted about the xcarlink installs and my thanks to the gods who made the civinfo post / link..... made stripping my dash to have a looksie pre- purchasing an xcarlink etc so much easier. #2 - I could have just asked on here anyway!

Basically I wanted to figure out if I needed the Y splitter cable to go with an xcarlink install. Having the exec model with sat nav and 6 cd changer and HFT Phone in one unit, I naturally ***umed I would. Turns out I dont! Nothing plugged into the white plug port on the back of my headunit... and everything works fine (haven't purchased the xcarlink yet!)

So, my query now is..... All I want out of this is to be able to pop in a USB stick with tons of music on it, not fussed on using SD or MP3 etc etc... do I really need an expensive xcarlink / Grom or are there any cheaper options available?

I know theres only 15 quid ish difference... but considering all I want to use it for is the USB Slot.... what would be your tips and advice here?

Xcarlink is tried and tested. Pull it out when you part with the car and sell it on for 75% of new price, it'll have hardly cost you anything. Selling on the unknown unit might be more difficult...

Do you want or need the HFT? If you have it and its functioning it probably won't do so forever.
When the HFT goes it can start to draw power from the Battery flattening it.
Just be aware of that potential issue before you buy an Audio device only, the Grom does both and renders the factory HFT redundant apart from the voice commands.
