Hi All,

My car has developed the shaking at around 60mph. We had the local honda garage look at it and they said inner cv joints so said to replace both half shafts at around £900. Im happy to do the work myself but even the shafts from honda at £369 + vat each so far too expensive. Ive been looking at some american sites where there seems to be replacement shafts in abundance at only $60 each. Even with the shipping and import its a hell of a lot cheaper to import the half shafts.

My question really is, will the US spec half shafts fit my UK car. I appreciate any advice.

Cheers

The US Accord is pretty different to the UK so I wouldn't like to say. The Acura TSX however is the same as our Accord. So that could be another line of inquiry perhaps.

One member bought blue print inner cv joints and his happy, because payed half price, then dealer said.

I already got a (lengthy) post up on this, the TSX got the same cv joints as ours, I got inner and outer from heel toe, car drives like a brand new car since then.

blueprint might be cheap but i would be very surprised if they would outlast OEM ones, The ones i got from heel toe are authentic honda parts.

My take up on this is a very high revving engine needs very good cv joints, any abnormalities and its going to fail.

heel toe actually have a sick variety of parts, big brake kits for 5grand, you got it.. they even got spoon cv joints or something for crazy money, for street racing and the like.

but the oem parts they have are spot on, save a packet from honda uk prices.

It doesn't matter how high revving the engine is... the gearbox and final drive compensate for this. It's the amount of torque that results from the engine output and overall gearing that strains the driveshaft joints.

Well given we're talking Hondas, shouldn't that mean our drive shafts never suffer any issues  (I joke as all Turbo Powered Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Mitsubishi drivers ridicule Hondas for being Torque-light  ).

Jon's spot on of course. If a car's travelling at 60 mph, the rotation of the drive shafts is the same regardless of whether you're in 4th gear or 6th gear. It's how much torque you're regularly putting through the drive shafts that can take its toll.

Ok so just to confirm,

If i buy inner CV joints for an acura TSX, theyll fit my UK Accord?

Cheers

yes, BUT it could be the outer also. I bought both.

most likely its the inner but for the sake of 200 bucks or so i got the other too
