good evening folks,i am getting my heart broke with my car,a whining noise has appearedfrom the belt area so i removed the belt to find the noise has disappeared,1st thing i tried was the power steering pump with no joy then i replaced the tensioner with no joy then i replaced the alternator, noise still their, please advise as i am on my wits end with this

Maybe a tensioner/pulley bearing?

There was a modification to the drivebelt which resulting in replacing the belt with a shorter one, resulting in a pulley becoming redundant and putting less strain on the alternator bearing - do you know if yours has had this? Do a search on this site, as it's definitely explained properly somewhere.

As Jon has said... if yours is a pre facelift then get the shorter belt fitted and remove the unused idler pulley

Adam I think his car is a facelift by the ***le on the thread.
But this noise as said might be the bearing on the Automator

Oh yeah, it's a facelift!
He's already changed the alternator.

I suggest carefully spraying WD40 onto the pulley, etc bearings while the engine is running to see if the noise stops.

and try a new belt I'm presuming though he would of changed it having changed a load of other things.

Try wd40 as Jon suggests no point throwing parts at it, worst case is crank pulley.

Didn't know the facelift had the shorter belt and no idler pulley.
