Hi everyone, as the ***le says my 2001 2.0 exec is feely a little poorly. Could anyone please give me a solution to the erratic idle and cutting out.
Pulled up at home this morning and engine stalled, now when i start the car (need to dip the throttle for it to start) it runs lumpy then stalls.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Big Dekka

Might be the lambda sensor, mine went and the car would cut out everytime it should've idled, you had to hold the throttle down to stop it dying :( not sure about the erratic idle though, I'm sure another forum member will be to hand soon though :)

Thanks Josh for the quick response, i'll look into that one, cheers.

Standard bits, egr valve, iac valve, egr plate.

The iac valve needs to come off the car to clean it. With the egr valve & plate you could try carb cleaner or Wynns EGR3 to see if that makes it any better. But to do it properly they should be removed and cleaned.

The risk with cleaning it on the car is that you will dislodge something and drag out deeper into the engine.

I've tried all of the above and mine still threatens to stall occasionally, I will have a look at the lambda sensors on mine as they have never been touched, someone else on here recently mentioned that the earth cables could be a factor too.

Get the code, using an obd2 reader out the pin shorting technique (threads on here for how to).

Chances are O2 sensor or egr valve, I've been told that an iac valve won't throw an eml light

Thanks to all who replied to my query, cleaned the IACV and the car is running like a dream.
Just need to find out how to reset the engine management light now.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Disconnecting the positive on the battery, turn on the ignition as if starting the car, hold the key in the starting position for 10 seconds, re-connect the battery. ECU reset done
