Following on from numerous experiments documented on various threads I am fairly confident that my air con issues are due to a failed / damaged compressor so I have now taken this off the car and am looking at trying to get it repaired.

Does anybody have any experience with this and can you recommend any good / reasonable companies to do this?

Energise the clutch coil to see if it pulls in? what were the symptoms of it not working in the first place?

Low pressure straight after re-gas. Clutch is working fine. Bypassed pressure safety system and still no pressure. Gas leaked out in just a week or so.

Was run for several years with no oil or gas by previous owner so fairly sure its the compressor.

Having found your other thread, I now remember that bit LOL
but if you strip it down, you might find the seals can be replaced ?

When you say 'run' for years with no oil or gas what does that mean? if there is no gas the compressor would not engage anyway it will just free run the pulley so that would not damage the compressor. If it was run with gas and no oil that may damage the compressor.
