Hi
Car doesn't get used much at the moment but have found that the air con has stopped working.
Can hear (and see) that the compressor is being engaged correctly but just no cold air.
Does the fact that the compressor is being engaged rule out the high + low pressure switches ? ***umed they would stop it running but not sure if that is correct.
Haven't noticed it becoming worse over time, last thing I remember it working as required but couldnt say when that was to be fair.
Any ideas, suggestions on things to try.
May need a re-gas but would have thought if needed then the low pressure switch may be activating and therefore stopping the compressor but unsure ?

I don't know about the switches but my AC compressor was engaging but it still needed replacing, Halfords (garages not shops) do an AC diagnostic for about £30.

Thanks antdad. Same sort of issues as above ? ?

Don't know that it ever has been. I've had it about 9 years and never have. Always worked spot on

If the clutch is kicking in and out its not gas, as the pressure switch disables the system if the pressure drops below a certain threshold. sounds like the pump isnt working.

Thanks, I did wonder this with the fact that it's kicking in, meaning that neither of the switches are coming into play for high or low pressure to stop it

Hi all
Just to complete this for the benefit of others, a local garage were doing a free a/c check and discounted re-gas, they checked and said that was what it needed, have done it and the a/c is now nice and cold again.

So appears I wrong with theory above re pressure switches and compressor engaging.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers
Ian

I had this recently happen to me. Took it to an A/C specialist and it turns out the condensor was scrap. Easy fix (albeit pricey).
