Absolutely gutted to have found out my cars air con has secretly been running the last 4 months wasting how many litres of fuel il never know, i never knew that unless your screen said air con off it was in auto mode ,,, my mpgs and fuel in genera have always been miserable hence buying a fiesta for a run round, but the fact that air con has been draining my wallet im gutted lol,
Always wondered why there was a fan running every 20 seconds lol

That took me a while to figure out too!

With a cold engine, I reckon that unless the heater says 'LO' the gas ***ist heater kicks in despite the screen saying 'A/C off' too. On my diesel at any rate.

This makes interesting reading...

Hello,if air con off,how his can work?In my car always off.How need turn off?Which buton need to use?

Regards
Tomas

It's only in auto mode if the green light above the auto button is on? I normally stick it on auto to demist if I've got loads of wet people in the car, but then later go into the touch screen and push 'off' next to the air con.

I found that unless on screen says air con off it is automacially running in backround, just push ac until it says off

We're doing well this week. Air con on for months without realising, someone else only just figured out his cruise control after months too  . I love it, makes me feel less silly about some of the dense car moments I've had in the last few years.

I was expecting this after moving from my Octavia where the climatronic was switchable between AUTO and ECON. the only difference being that the aircon compressor didn't run in ECON mode. It's definitely not as clear on the Honda as it could be though, at least with the touch screen :)

Feel a bit stupid asking this, but its the one place I might get a definite answer! Is the Air con just for hot weather? I drive to and from college every day and in the morning I could do with some heat, but I normally leave it on 22 once it's warmed up!
What's the best setting to have it on for economy? Or what's recommended?

I wouldn't worry about it - car companies love switching terminology on you just as you're getting the hang of it :)

There are three main differences between aircon and just using the fans:

1. Aircon can reduce the internal temperature of the car below that of the outside. Fans alone can only blow external air in for a breeze, or warm it up as it comes through
2. Aircon has a dehumidifying effect amd will clear your windows a lot faster, especially if you have passengers
3. Aircon uses a bit of extra fuel because you're driving the compressor, but not as much as you'd think these days - especially on Auto mode

The difference between aircon and climate control used to be that CC would regulate the temperature to a predetermined setting whereas aircon needed you to tweak the dial, but nowadays automatic aircon amounts to the same thing. Sometimes you'll get automatic recirculation built in but I never use recirculated air as it steams up the car too quickly - I'd rather turn it off until I'm past whatever's causing the stink on the outside :)

Brialliant! I always wondered about that, had an A4 before the Accord and when people would mention Aircon, I felt such a *** not knowing the first thing about it!

Air con or not the cl9 has absolute ***** mpg i got 65 miles for 40 quid in the last two days, racing about a bit yeh but all the time was with a focus st and astra vxr and they used half the fuel!,!,!,! New car for me lol

Think about how heavy an accord is compared to a focus though?

If any of that is true then there is something wrong with your car. 65 miles off 40 quid is roughly 10mpg.

Exactly 10mpg is disgusting the st has a turbo and.bigger engine, i just put. New battery in so hoped it would help the mpg issue but nothing, topped up oil aswell no extra weight and running standard wheels etc and engine runs perfect, going to try putting a forced air filter on n see if it makes any difference, after all it cant get worse surely

Does it really make that much diference having auto on all the time?

I have had my car a year now and have always drove around with auto switched on and still average around 48/50 mpg and 500/600 miles on a full tank (£75).
