The saga continues. So finally I got the timing chain replaced (under warranty) from the engine centre but I've got the car back and noticed that the airbag light is permanently on and all the steering wheel controls are not working. Looking around on this problem, it would appear that the clockspring has been broken. Can anybody tell me how replacing a timing chain could damage the clock spring?

It won't could be coincidence or was damaged by garage

***uming that they replaced the lower timing chain then the sump has to be removed. To remove the sump requires the front subframe to be 'lowered' (the official Honda workshop manual is very vague about how much it should be lowered). To lower the front subframe it is (again vaguely) suggested that the steering rack should be disconnected from the steering column (I didn't see the need to do this, as the front subframe did not need to come down very much, so I didn't bother to fiddle about with the steering but I kept a careful eye on it during the job).

I'm guessing that the garage DID disconnect the steering rack, failed to align it properly during reassembly, so then had to remove the steering wheel afterwards to get the steering wheel properly centered again. And during removal they knackered the clock spring, or left a connector undone.

They broke it, they need to fix it!

Thanks for that. I didn't realise the steering rack needed to be disconnected but your explanation makes perfect sense. Anyway, they'll be fixing it free of charge. I'm hoping it's just a connection that's loose.
