Alternative to buying from Honda?

Hey all,

Where do you get your parts from?
To cut a long story short, I need to buy a new boot seal to stop water pouring in to the boot well....Honda want about £70 for it.....it's a piece of rubber!

Are there alternatives to buying honda parts, or is this a "luxury" of being a honda owner?
 
I've had this experiance before, and the problem with buying a part for something like the 6th gen from somewhere other than the dealers is that it might not fit.

I bought a door seal for my old 6th from ebay, was an 'imitation' part and the bl00dy thing would even slightly fit! So you have to be careful that wherever you get the part from, you can send it back if it doesn't fit.
 
surely there is a scray yard filled with cars near you?!?
i love looking in the local scrap getting your hands dirty, :) i got a door seal for £10

and the odd clip i was missing :unsure:

there's too much 'elf n safety', i don't think I'm allowed to actually enter that scrap yards down here.....

With regards to the rubber seal around the boot. Is there a right way to put it on? Last night I took a closer look at the existing one....the small holes all point in towards the boot. That seems odd to me.

If they are drainage holes, then all the water is heading to the boot, not to the outer areas of the car....?
 
Theres a scrappy near me, but there are no Accords in it :( A few Civics, but that's it for Honda :(
 
Adam make sure you let us know what company you use mate, and let us know how you get on with them. Places to get bits for the 6th gen are running out now :( :( :(

That's a shame

To be honest, I took it to a local garage - Pengelly's in Callington.
My father used them for years. They seem really good. I've no idea where he got the parts from. Probably Honda or Kevin Cooper.
 
When they gave you the bill, how much did it cost for the seal? To me £70 is a reasonable price for that particular bit.

Didn't get it done. They tested it and said it was absolutely fine. They pumped water at it and blew it through with air. Said that the leak is not due to that.....

So it was £117 for oil change, oil filter change and gear box engine change.

.......I know, could have done it myself!!!

DAMN!!!! that's a lot of money!!! What oil did you get put in?

Really? I didn't think that was too bad. especially considering just the oil changes (engine and gearbox) with oil filter was £250 at Honda.

I think they charged me some labour for looking in to the leaky boot as well.

I'm not sure what oil they used. I'll check the invoice they gave me.
